Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center seeks an LVN or Sr. LVN to join an outpatient clinic team. Under supervision, you will perform patient evaluations, assist with exams, administer medications, and document care in the EMR.

Qualified candidates hold a Texas LVN license, have completed or are completing a Board of Nursing accredited program, and are eligible for NCLEX-PN; two years of LVN hospital experience is preferred for the senior role.

Qualifications

• LVN license in Texas or temporary permit in progress.
• NCLEX-PN must be passed on first attempt for new graduates.
• Sr. LVN requires at least two years LVN experience in hospital/clinic.

Responsibilities

• Reports data, identifies and reports alterations in patient responses to aid problem identification and goal setting.
• Prepares and operates equipment and instruments for examinations, treatments and procedures.
• Maintains knowledge of current issues and treatment modalities.
• Administers or assists with medications and documents them.
• Assists with or performs exams and documents interventions in EMR.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Description

Employees in this classification are responsible for performing awide variety of patient care activities in an assigned specialty orsub-specialty outpatient clinic. Work is performed under thedirection of a licensed staff nurse and/or physician as part of atotal health care team in providing complete evaluations topatients. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions,necessitating a high degree of contact with patient, families andclinic personnel.

Applicant will be considered for either a LicensedVocational Nurse or Sr. Licensed Vocational Nurse level positionbased on education, experience, and skills.

Major/Essential Functions

• Reports data, Identifies and reports alterations in patientresponses to assist in the identification of problems andformulation of goals/ outcomes.
• Prepares and operates necessary equipment and instruments forexaminations, treatments and procedures.
• Maintains working knowledge of current issues and treatmentmodalities.
• Administer or assist with the administration and documentationof medications.
• Assists with or performs exams and procedures and documentsintervention in Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

LVN: Completion of a Board of Nursing Accredited program ofvocational nursing or scheduled to complete a program of vocationalnursing within 120 days of applying for a position. CurrentVocational Nursing license in the state of Texas or the attainmentof a temporary permit from the Board of Nursing to practicevocational nursing pending full licensure in the state of Texas.New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examinationfor Practical Nurses (NCLEX- PN) on the first attempt. Noexperience required.

Sr. LVN: Education: Completion of a Board of Nursingaccredited program of vocational nursing. License/Certification:Current Vocational Nursing license in the state of Texas or theattainment of a temporary permit from the Board of Nursing topractice vocational nursing pending full licensure in the state ofTexas. Experience: At least two years of LVN experience in a hospital, clinic or community-based environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Clinical experience in a clinic or hospital-basedfacility.
• Experience with various types of insurance and authorizationprocedures.
