As we expand our footprint in the Businessowners Policy (BOP) and Builders Risk segments, we are seeking a forward-thinking and experienced Senior Loss Control Representative to join our growing Commercial Insurance team.This role plays a critical part in our risk management strategy—blending direct fieldwork with strategic oversight of third-party vendors to ensure our underwriting decisions are grounded in accurate, real-world risk assessment. The Senior Loss Control Representative will conduct select in-person and virtual inspections, while also managing the relationship with our inspection partners to ensure timely, thorough, and scalable risk evaluations.You’ll also serve as a trusted risk advisor to underwriters, agents, and insureds—helping shape risk appetite, improve safety outcomes, and maintain a profitable book of business in both small commercial and construction sectors. As we scale our Builders Risk and inland marine capabilities, you will play a leadership role in helping shape the future of our loss control practice.Essential FunctionsRisk Assessment & InspectionPerform comprehensive risk evaluations for small commercial properties and Builders Risk clients, both on-site and virtually.Examine building construction, site security, business operations, and contractor practices to identify hazards and vulnerabilities.Evaluate inland marine risks including construction projects (new and renovation), equipment on premises, jobsite storage, housekeeping, and goods in transit.Oversee relationships with outsourced inspection vendors to ensure service quality, turnaround time, and alignment with underwriting expectations.Review vendor reports for accuracy and completeness; ensure inspections capture the appropriate scope of risk from an underwriting and risk management perspective.Establish inspection priorities, protocols, and escalation processes that support a scalable and proactive risk management strategy.Loss Prevention & Risk MitigationDeliver clear, actionable recommendations to help policyholders reduce loss frequency and severity.Support small business clients in implementing safety training, fire prevention measures, and disaster preparedness programs.Serve as a practical risk management advisor—balancing real-world client challenges with effective mitigation strategies.Reporting & Underwriting SupportCreate thorough loss control reports with risk ratings, visual documentation, and prioritized recommendations.Review and validate reports from outsourced inspection vendors to ensure they meet underwriting standards and support accurate risk selection.Provide quality assurance feedback to vendors and escalate issues that impact underwriting decisions or service timelines.Maintain risk profiles and collaborate with underwriters to ensure alignment between field assessments and coverage decisions.Offer specialized insights on inland marine and Builders Risk exposures to support complex underwriting scenarios.Collaboration & Relationship ManagementServe as a trusted technical resource for underwriters, agents, brokers, and policyholders.Help build confidence with agents and clients by translating field findings into clear, constructive conversations.Mentor underwriting associates and contribute to team education efforts related to construction and field-based risk topics.Professional Development & ComplianceStay current on construction safety standards, NFPA and IBC codes, OSHA regulations, and industry-specific risk trends.Ensure all loss control activity adheres to legal, ethical, and company standards.Contribute to the evolution of internal guidelines, inspection protocols, and vendor oversight procedures.TravelUp to 30% travel is required for in-field work, and 70% of time is spent in the office.Required Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Engineering, Occupational Safety, or related fieldPreferred Education and Experience5–7+ years in loss control or commercial risk management, preferably focused on small business and construction exposures.Industry certifications such as CFSP, ARM, CSP, or CRM are strongly preferred.Strong understanding of BOP and Builders Risk coverages and the specific challenges small commercial clients face.Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-experts.Comfortable working independently in the field and collaborating cross-functionally with underwriting, product, and distribution teams.The preceding position description has been designed to indicate the general nature of the work performed, the level of knowledge and skills typically required, and the usual working conditions of this position.
