Job summary

The Talance Group in Houston, TX seeks a Senior/Lead Analyst, Market Risk to strengthen the Risk Department and deliver current Market Risk requirements, including daily risk reporting and analysis for proposed transactions.

The role supports colleagues in market and credit risk, uses Endur and other risk tools, and contributes to risk modelling and portfolio risk assessment while ensuring adherence to risk policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required; preferably in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • ERP or FRM certification a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain risk models to understand market risk.
  • Perform ad-hoc risk analysis on complex transactions.
  • Produce daily risk reporting to ensure policy compliance.
  • Collaborate with Front Office and Risk teams on current portfolio risk for transactions.
  • Support risk modelling and development in market, credit, and operational risk.
  • Provide backup for other Risk Team members.
  • Duties may evolve with business needs.

Job description

The Senior/Lead Analyst, Market Risk, reports directly to the Manager, Market Risk, and is responsible for developing the Risk Department's capabilities and delivering the current Risk Management requirements, including daily risk reporting to ensure compliance with Risk Policies and Limits as well as providing risk analysis for proposed transactions.

The Senior/Lead Analyst will be responsible for providing general risk support and recommendations to the Houston office, including colleagues in the market and credit risk teams.

Responsibilities And Essential Duties
  • Financial modeling and use of complex risk models or tools required to understand and analyze market risk.
  • Operating in Endur.
  • Ensuring that the representation of complex transactions in the company's systems of record provides a fair picture of the associated risks.
  • Providing ad-hoc risk analysis around complex transactions put forward by the Front Office.
  • Liaising with Front Office on the risk analysis related to its current portfolio and proposed transactions.
  • Daily reporting to ensure compliance with the Risk policy.
  • Additional duties will vary and may include work in risk modelling and analysis, and development work in the areas of market, credit and operational risk, and providing backup for the responsibilities of other Risk Team members.

Knowledge And Skills

Demonstrated working knowledge and ability to assess, analyze and monitor market risk in a trading environment utilizing advanced analytical, numerical and statistical skills.

Skills
  • Quantitative and financial modeling skills.
  • Experience analyzing US natural gas and/or power markets.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel & MS PowerPoint.
  • Excellent analytical skills, self-motivated and capable of independent achievement.
  • Strong business analysis, modeling and problem-solving skills with technical propensity and strong follow-through.
  • Organized and able to manage multiple activities and programs in a timely manner and with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient with OpenLink Endur, SQL, Zema or other risk tools are desirable.
Education And Experience

Education and Certifications: Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field; Master's degree preferred. ERP or FRM certification a plus.

Experience
  • Senior: Minimum three (3) years of experience within the commodity trading/marketing industry, preferably in a risk management role.
  • Lead: Minimum seven (7) years of experience within the commodity trading/marketing industry, preferably in a risk management role.
