Job summary

Cabot Corporation in Billerica, MA, is seeking a Sr Lab Technical Operator to join the Performance Chemicals team. The role centers on hands-on experimentation, sample preparation, data collection, and operating large equipment beyond bench-scale chemistry, onsite at the Billerica technical center.

You will support Battery Materials and Carbon Silica Technologies, ensuring tests are thorough, well-documented, and compliant with safety and SH&E procedures.

Qualifications

• Education & Experience can be: High School diploma/GED plus 4+ years of related lab experience, or an Associate degree plus 2+ years of related lab experience.
• Hands-on lab experience is heavily preferred.
• Knowledge of laboratory testing equipment and protocols and ability to identify out-of-range results and note unusual patterns.
• Basic mechanical knowledge and hands-on experience using hand tools on lab equipment.
• Ability to move heavy equipment and lift up to 50 lbs (22.7 kg) and may require a respirator.
• Experience in a cGMP or regulated manufacturing environment preferred.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and established procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office.
• Effective teamwork skills and good written/verbal communication.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical or mechanical issues.
• Experience with process improvement methodologies.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Flexibility to adapt to process change.

Responsibilities

• Prepares samples for non-routine and complex testing.
• Operates routine processing and other testing apparatus as required.
• Recognizes and troubleshoots equipment or process issues and participates in problem resolution.
• May assemble and install testing or process equipment.
• Ensures tests are executed thoroughly, accurately, and on schedule.
• Keeps detailed notes, enters data into databases, and provides summary interpretations.
• Coordinates resources and collaborates with other operators to meet testing deadlines.
• Assists in developing test methods for new or existing equipment.
• Performs routine maintenance and calibration of testing equipment.
• Follows service requests from initiation through completion.
• Supports continuous improvement and shares constructive solutions for process challenges.
• Adheres to SH&E procedures and maintains safe work areas; completes required training.
• Gains knowledge of work processes and business context.
