Role Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Engineer with deep, hands‑on expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices, along with strong experience building serverless and cloud‑native applications on AWS. The ideal candidate will design and build scalable, secure, event‑driven backend systems for enterprise applications.
This is a Spring Boot–heavy role. Experience with AI-native development (using AI coding assistants and integrating AI capabilities into applications) is a strong plus, along with a track record of delivering enterprise‑grade solutions in a true Agile environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services using Java (11/17+) and Spring Boot.
- Architect and build microservices using Spring Cloud patterns: service discovery, API gateway, centralized configuration, resilience (circuit breakers, retries), and distributed tracing.
- Build and manage RESTful APIs, domain integrations, and event‑driven workflows using Kafka, Amazon SQS/SNS, or EventBridge.
- Design and deliver serverless components using AWS Lambda (Java / Spring Cloud Function), API Gateway, and Step Functions where they best fit the use case.
- Containerize and deploy Spring Boot services on AWS (ECS/EKS, Lambda) using Docker and Infrastructure as Code.
- Work with relational and NoSQL data stores (PostgreSQL/MySQL, DynamoDB) using Spring Data JPA / Hibernate, and implement caching (Redis) to improve performance and scalability.
- Secure services using Spring Security, OAuth 2.0 / OIDC, and role‑based access control (RBAC).
- Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, testing, and documentation, and contribute to AI‑enabled features where applicable.
- Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Architects, Frontend Engineers, and Data Engineering teams.
- Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, automated testing (JUnit, Mockito), CI/CD, and cloud‑native best practices.
- Participate actively in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, standups, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
Required Skills
- Java & Spring Boot (Core): 8–10+ years of Java development with deep, hands‑on Spring Boot expertise, including Spring MVC/WebFlux, Spring Data JPA, Spring Security, and Spring Cloud.
- Microservices Architecture: Proven experience designing, building, and operating microservices at scale, including API design, inter‑service communication, resilience patterns, and observability.
- Serverless: Hands‑on experience with AWS Lambda, API Gateway, and event‑driven serverless design; familiarity with Java cold‑start optimization (e.g., SnapStart, GraalVM) is a plus.
- Event‑Driven Architecture: Experience with Kafka, SQS/SNS, or EventBridge for asynchronous, event‑driven integrations across business domains.
- AWS Cloud: Working knowledge of core AWS services such as Lambda, ECS/EKS, API Gateway, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, IAM, and CloudWatch.
- Data & Persistence: Strong SQL and relational database skills (PostgreSQL/MySQL), with exposure to NoSQL (DynamoDB/MongoDB) and caching (Redis).
- Security: Solid understanding of OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, and RBAC implemented with Spring Security.
- DevOps & Engineering Practices: CI/CD (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar), Docker, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/AWS CDK), Git-based workflows, and testing with JUnit/Mockito.
- Agile Delivery: Proven experience working in a real Agile/Scrum environment, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑quality software.
AI‑Native Development (Good to Have)
- Experience with GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar AI coding tools.
- Ability to use AI for code generation, testing, debugging, refactoring, and documentation.
- Exposure to integrating AI services (e.g., AWS Bedrock, LLM APIs, Spring AI) into Java applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS Certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Developer or Solutions Architect).
- Experience with Domain‑Driven Design (DDD).
- Financial services or enterprise SaaS experience.
- Experience with reactive programming (Spring WebFlux) or GraalVM native images.
