The analyst will engage with managers on performance, attribution, and outlook; participate in board and committee discussions; and help advance data management, reporting, and processes across the System.

Job description

The Maryland State Retirement Agency is the administrator of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System ("System"). The System is a defined benefit retirement system covering State and local government employees of Maryland. It's composed of twelve (12) separate retirement and pension systems with over 50 different rule sets. The System has over 433,000 participants (customers), including 210,000 members who are actively employed and participating in the System, 179,000 payees who receive a monthly payment from the System, and 44,000 vested members who are no longer actively employed but have earned a benefit that will become payable at a future date.

The Sr. Investment Analyst - Private Credit assists in the sourcing, evaluation, selection, and ongoing monitoring of external managers while supporting portfolio construction and management efforts through investment idea generation, market and sector research, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and development of investment recommendations.

The Senior Investment Analyst II's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Interacting with potential and existing managers to discuss performance, attribution, firm changes, outlook, etc.
• Monitoring and overseeing managers through participation in update calls, advisory board meetings, and annual general meetings.
• Participating in industry groups and with other state pension funds to continue to develop best practices in manager evaluation and investment analysis.
• Determining whether prospective strategies exhibit risk and return characteristics that meet portfolio objectives while utilizing qualitative and quantitative analysis to support investment ideas and recommendations.
• Data management, reporting, and process improvement.
• Investigating and completing market analysis and research projects to develop knowledge and experience in multiple asset classes.
• Organizing and maintaining data and reports in the System's client relationship management platform.
• Researching trends and relationships between asset classes to develop historical perspective.
• Assisting in the efficient operation of the division by working on special projects as needed.
