The Senior Interconnection Engineer leads the interconnection process of utility-scale solar and energy storage projects at various development stages. This role involves ensuring compliance for reactive power requirements, developing power flow models, and collaborating with various teams to ensure successful project execution.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the development of plant specific power flow models critical to successfully guide projects through the interconnection process including PSSe, PSLF and PSCAD.
  • Understand optimal interconnection strategies across major US markets.
  • Ensure compliance for reactive power requirements and develop power flow models to support the applications.
  • Understand inverter behavior and impacts on electrical transmission systems, ensure compliance with technical interconnection requirements for development projects.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant utility tariffs, NERC requirements, solar and battery storage facility design, and technical standards.
  • Participate in technical discussions with utilities/ISOs for interconnection studies.
  • Research, evaluate and report on regulations, tariffs, and new technologies such as storage/battery stand alone and hybrid project configurations.

Must-Haves

  • 5 or more years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Technical background, including experience in transmission systems planning or generator interconnection process, and previous employment with a utility, an ISO, or a renewable energy company.
  • Knowledge of transmission systems and long-term transmission plans in US. Understanding of Open Access Transmission Tariffs and Generator Interconnection Procedures and Study Methodologies for US ISO/RTO regions (PJM, NYISO, CAISO, MISO, WECC, SPP).
  • Proficiency in power flow software

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Remote with up to 10% travel.
