Job summary

OunceIT LLC is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer in Massachusetts to design, implement and maintain robust server and network infrastructures for non‑profits, independent schools and mission‑based clients. You will manage on‑prem and hybrid environments across multiple sites, ensuring security, reliability and scalable operations.

You will build advisory partnerships, document standards, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with leadership to deliver complex projects on time

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems or a related technical discipline with 8 years of relevant experience.
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining both physical and virtual hosts in environments of various scope and scale.
• Proven experience in engineering and sustaining server infrastructure and troubleshooting on‑prem and hybrid environments.
• Strong understanding of building resilient infrastructure, including HA and DR.
• Proven administration of virtualization platforms (Hyper‑V, VMware) and related best practices.
• Experience administering Windows Server services (AD, DNS, DHCP, Exchange, GPO, file services, MySQL).
• Experience in engineering and sustaining network systems and cross‑team collaboration.
• Strong change management, documentation, and customer service skills.
• Demonstrated project/process management and ability to balance priorities.

Responsibilities

OunceIT is seeking an experienced, talented and motivated Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join our growing team supporting non-profits, mission-based organizations and independent schools in Massachusetts. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, implementing and maintaining resilient and secure infrastructure, including on-premise and hybrid server environments as well as a variety of network environments.

Position Summary

You will build and maintain high-level technical advisory partnerships with core clients, delivering technology benchmarks and industry-standard practices under the guidance of our leadership team. You are tasked with designing and deploying robust server and network configurations for a variety of environments, including small offices and large, multi-building and multi-site campuses, and you will be responsible for the oversight and management—or collaborative co-management—of significant technical infrastructure projects.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design, deploy and maintain robust server and network infrastructure to support our clients' environments.
• Design, configure and maintain performant and resilient server environments to meet the needs of our clients’ current and future technology operations.
• Configure and optimize network hardware including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and VPN solutions to ensure secure and reliable connectivity.
• Design and lead complex infrastructure-related engineering projects including system upgrades, migrations and new deployments.
• Monitor environment performance, troubleshoot latency and bandwidth issues and implement changes to improve stability and throughput.
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation including detailed equipment and environment diagrams, system engineering plans and technical standards.
• Ensure server and network designs comply with all security policies, supports scalability and aligns with clients’ operational, budget and mission requirements.
• Mentor and guide less experienced technical engineers, providing technical oversight and sharing knowledge.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems or a related technical discipline with 8 years of relevant experience ideally in a consulting or MSP environment.
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining both physical and virtual hosts in environments of various scope and scale, from single office to multi-building campus environments.
• Proven experience in engineering and sustaining server infrastructure and hands‑on experience troubleshooting and maintaining on‑prem and hybrid server environments.
• Strong understanding of building resilient infrastructure, including knowledge of highly available and redundant systems.
• Proven administration of current virtualization platforms (Hyper‑V, VMware, etc.) and understanding of related best practices (backups, HA, DR, etc.)
• Experience administering Windows Server environments, including services such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, print management, Exchange, GPO, file services, MySQL, etc.
• Experience in engineering and sustaining network systems in support of server, storage, and other on‑premise infrastructure.
• Experience working with different teams, across disciplines to ensure robust solutions that can be supported by multiple parties.
• Experienced in technical change management practices to reduce risk, prevent avoidable outages, and ensure changes to critical systems are executed in a controlled, well‑documented way.
• Strong customer service skills, with both in‑person and remote situations
• Demonstrable project/process management background and experience in a technical environment
• Strong time‑management, organization, leadership and administrative skills, and ability to manage competing priorities
• Ability to balance working autonomously while also working as a member of a larger team
