Job summary

Central Transport seeks an Operations Supervisor in Vandalia, OH to manage a designated dock section and 30 local drivers and dock staff, ensuring on-time loading, safe operations, and adherence to DOT/OSHA standards.

You will lead with a focus on service excellence, coach and mentor team members, monitor KPI targets, and balance labor with freight levels, while maintaining a high‑performing, safe work environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in managing a team, preferably in transportation operations.
• Understanding of the LTL trucking industry.
• Prior management, dispatch and dock experience in LTL trucking.
• Strong leadership including hiring, coaching, training and mentoring.
• Commitment to service excellence for customers.
• High aptitude for technology and data use.
• Ability to multi-task while remaining detail oriented.
• Excellent written, listening and verbal communication skills.
• Willing to work 50 hours per week, including nights/weekends, in all weather.
• Bachelor’s or Associate degree preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee operations for your designated section of the terminal dock, including unloading, forklift traffic and picking/sortation.
• Manage up to 30 local LTL drivers and dock personnel to meet production schedules.
• Use independent judgment to build loads based on labor and freight levels.
• Ensure proper load of carriers by monitoring cube and trailer weight.
• Provide leadership and accountability to drivers, dock workers and dock hand.
• Monitor dock production and KPI goals, ensuring targets are met or exceeded.
• Monitor hours and overtime while maintaining safety compliance.
• Ensure company operational model compliance and quality for customers.

Operations Supervisor

Ideal Candidate Requirements

• Experience in managing a team, preferably in transportation operations
• A thorough understanding of the LTL trucking industry
• Prior management, dispatch and dock experience required, preferably in LTL trucking industry
• Must have strong leadership skills including the ability to hire, coach, counsel, train, and mentor employees
• Desire to surround customer with excellence in service
• High aptitude for technology
• The ability to multi-task while being detail oriented
• Excellent written, listening and verbal communication skills
• Must be willing to work 50 hours/week average
• Must be able to work any shift including nights and/or weekends and in any weather condition
• Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-pressure environment with multiple priorities
• An Associate or Bachelor's Degree, preferred but not required

Duties (include, but are not limited to)

• Oversee operations for your designated section of the terminal dock This includes the process of unloading, managing forklift traffic, and overseeing proper picking/sortation of palletized freight.
• Manage up to 30 local LTL drivers and dock personnel to achieve a designated production schedule.
• Utilizing your independent judgement to build loads based on available labor and freight levels.
• Ensure proper load of carriers by monitoring the cube and weight of trailers
• Provide leadership and accountability to a team of drivers, dock workers and dock hand.
• Monitor dock production, ensuring facility Key Performance Indicator goals are met and/or exceeded.
• Monitor hours and overtime.
• Maintain a safe work environment compliant with state and federal DOT/OSHA standards.
• Ensure company operational model compliance.
• Support a culture of excellence in quality of product to internal and external customers

Salary ranges from: $65,000 - $80,000 + up to 10% in bonuses
