Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking an experienced HVAC Journeyman Technician to support Houston and San Antonio markets. You will diagnose, repair, and optimize large commercial/chiller systems across industrial facilities, with a safety-first approach and focus on quality service.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in commercial HVAC, BAS/DDC experience, and a Texas Journeyman license with EPA 608 certification. This role offers a company vehicle, tools, and comprehensive benefits, with opportunities for growth

Qualifications

  • Active TDLR HVAC Journeyman License (Texas).
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification.
  • 5+ years of commercial HVAC experience with heavy chiller systems.
  • Experience with BAS/DDC controls platforms.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting across low and high voltage systems.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license in good standing.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and confined spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair large tonnage chillers (air- and water-cooled; centrifugal, screw, scroll).
  • Commission and startup chiller and controls systems to optimize efficiency.
  • Identify and resolve electrical, mechanical, and controls issues.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on chillers, cooling towers, pumps, boilers, and related equipment.
  • Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.
  • Keep accurate service records and document recommendations.
  • Communicate findings and next steps clearly with customers.
  • Adhere to safety, EPA standards, and company policies.
  • Mentor apprentices and junior technicians when applicable.

Job description

Job Summary

We're looking for experienced HVAC Journeymen Technicians with deep expertise in a variety of commercial HVAC systems to join our service team. In this role, you'll handle complex diagnostics, repairs, preventative maintenance, and system optimization across large commercial and industrial facilities. The right candidate brings strong technical instincts, a safety-first mindset, and a track record of delivering quality service. We are looking for technicians to support the Houston and San Antonio markets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair large tonnage chillers — air-cooled and water-cooled — including centrifugal, screw, and scroll configurations.
  • Commission and start up chiller and controls systems, optimizing for peak efficiency.
  • Identify and resolve electrical, mechanical, and controls-related issues.
  • Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance on chillers, cooling towers, pumps, boilers, and supporting equipment.
  • Interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.
  • Keep accurate, timely documentation of all service work, repairs, and recommendations.
  • Communicate clearly with customers about system conditions, findings, and next steps.
  • Adhere to all safety requirements, EPA standards, and internal company policies.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to apprentices and junior technicians when applicable.
Required Qualifications
  • Active TDLR HVAC Journeyman License (Texas).
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification.
  • 5 or more years of commercial HVAC experience with significant exposure to heavy chiller systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with BAS/DDC controls platforms.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting capability across both low and high voltage systems.
  • Comfortable working independently with limited oversight.
  • Valid Texas driver's license in good standing.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and operate in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and confined spaces.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Factory certifications or formal training on major chiller manufacturers.
  • Hands-on controls programming or commissioning background.
  • Prior experience in hospitals, industrial plants, or large-scale commercial buildings.
