Job summary

HTS Engineering Ltd. is seeking an Experienced Commercial HVAC Service Tech to join our field team in Houston, TX. This role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining large commercial HVAC systems, including chillers and building automation.

You'll work independently with minimal supervision, handle complex diagnostics, perform preventive maintenance, and coordinate with customers to ensure peak system performance while upholding safety standards and EPA requirements.

Qualifications

  • EPA 608 Universal Certification required.
  • 5+ years of commercial HVAC experience with significant exposure to heavy chiller systems.
  • Experience with BAS/DDC controls platforms.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting capability across both low and high voltage systems.
  • Valid Texas driver's license in good standing.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and operate in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and confined spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Handle complex diagnostics, repairs, preventative maintenance, and system optimization across large commercial and industrial facilities.
  • Diagnose and repair large tonnage chillers — air-cooled and water-cooled — including centrifugal, screw, and scroll configurations.
  • Troubleshoot and program DDC/BAS building controls systems at an advanced level.
  • Commission and start up chiller and controls systems, optimizing for peak efficiency.
  • Identify and resolve electrical, mechanical, and controls-related issues.
  • Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance on chillers, cooling towers, pumps, boilers, and supporting equipment.
  • Interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.
  • Keep accurate, timely documentation of all service work, repairs, and recommendations.
  • Communicate clearly with customers about system conditions, findings, and next steps.
  • Adhere to all safety requirements, EPA standards, and internal company policies.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to apprentices and junior technicians when applicable.
