Job summary

Blue Origin LLC seeks a Sr. Human Factors Engineer to lead enterprise-level human factors standards within the Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE) group. You will develop frameworks, support program-embedded teams, and help implement human-centered design across spaceflight projects.

You will apply HF principles to requirements reviews, design evaluations, and HITL test campaigns, collaborating with systems engineering and operations to drive safety, usability, and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a B.S. in Human Factors Engineering, Aerospace, Cognitive Systems Engineering, Psychology, or related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in human factors engineering or human-centered system design (preferably in aerospace).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop clear written technical documents, guidelines, or reference materials.
  • Experience conducting task analyses and/or human error analyses and human-in-the-loop testing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop enterprise-level human factors standards, methodologies, and best practices for cross-program use.
  • Provide guidance on ergonomics, usability, workload, and human error to program-embedded engineers.
  • Support creation/review of task and human error analyses; perform anthropometric evaluations.

The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design.As a Human Factors Engineer (HFE) within ACE, part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of Human Integration experts, you will play a central role in ensuring that Blue Origin's space and ground systems are human-centered — actively prioritizing and integrating the capabilities, limitations, and needs of human users into processes, designs, and operations company-wide. Working closely with a Principal Human Factors Engineer, you will develop the HF frameworks, standards, and best practices that program-embedded HFEs and systems engineers across Blue Origin rely on to make human-centric design decisions. You will also provide direct HF support to ACE programs, grounding your enterprise work in real engineering challenges. This is a unique opportunity to shape how a next-generation space company thinks about and practices human factors engineering at scale. Passion for our mission and a commitment to crew and operator safety are essential. **Responsibilities:***Enterprise Standards (approximately 70%)** Partner with the Principal Human Factors Engineer to develop, document, and maintain enterprise-level human factors standards, methodologies, and best practices for cross-program application across Blue Origin + Develop: Blue Origin Human Integration Standard (with similarities to NASA-STD-3001 Volume 2); Astronaut Systems Design Guide; Handbooks: Human-Systems Integration (HSI), Task Analysis, Human Error Analysis, Worksite Analysis, Human-in-the-Loop Evaluations, and Operational Nomenclature Best Practices + Maintain: Blue Origin User Interface Standard; Ground Operability & Ergonomics Design Guide* Develop and deliver training materials and support for enterprise-level documents, enabling consistent adoption across programs and business units* Support development of AI tools to aid in application of human factors processes and principles* Maintain open communication and host or support regular review sessions with business unit stakeholders to gather input and drive continuous improvement of enterprise HF outputs*ACE Program Support (approximately 30%)** Serve as a human factors subject matter expert to program-embedded engineers and designers, providing guidance on human factors requirements (e.g., ergonomics, usability, workload, human error) and methodologies (e.g., task and human error analyses, worksite analysis, human-in-the-loop testing)* Apply human factors principles to ACE program activities, including requirements review, design evaluations, and human-in-the-loop (HITL) test support* Support the creation and review of task and human error analyses to inform design and operations decisions* Perform anthropometric analyses and ergonomic evaluations in support of program-specific design questions* Support human factors verification planning, including mapping requirements to verification events* Collaborate with systems engineering, design, and operations teams to integrate human-centered design principles into engineering workflows**Qualifications:*** Minimum of a B.S. in Human Factors Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Cognitive Systems Engineering, Psychology, or a related technical discipline* 5+ years of industry experience in human factors engineering or human-centered system design (preferably in aerospace, with familiarity with NASA-STD-3001)* Foundational knowledge across core human factors competencies, including: human performance and efficiency, ergonomics, safety engineering, task and human error analysis, human-systems integration, systems engineering principles, and human-in-the-loop testing* Demonstrated ability to develop clear written technical documents, guidelines, or reference materials* Experience conducting task analyses and/or human error analyses and human-in-the-loop testing* Ability to translate human factors principles and findings into clear, actionable engineering guidance* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams* Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion* Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum**Desired:*** Graduate degree in Human Factors, Cognitive Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline* 8+ years of aerospace industry experience in HF or human-centered system design* Familiarity with NASA human systems integration standards (e.g., NASA-STD-3001) or other relevant industry HF standards* Experience developing standards, guidelines, or reference frameworks for team or enterprise use* Experience supporting human-in-the-loop (HITL) test campaigns in safety-critical environments* Experience in human spaceflight, aviation, defense, or other safety-critical operational domains* Expertise in anthropometric analysis methods and tools* Experience with requirements management tools and verification planning processes* Experience developing or delivering technical training content### Base Pay Range for:CO applicants is $133,500.00 - $186,898.95WA applicants is $145,188.00 - $203,263.20**Other site ranges may differ** **Culture Statement**Don’t meet all desired requirements?
