Job summary

Honeywell is seeking a Sr. HSE Engineer to support the Des Plaines, IL (R&D) location and Riverside/McCook, IL (R&D & Manufacturing). You will implement the HSE Management System and drive safety, health, and environmental programs across sites.

The role requires 5+ years in HSE, a related Bachelor's degree, and strong knowledge of regulations and audits. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, training development, and management of change experience are valued.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in HSE within manufacturing, R&D, or related fields
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science or related field
  • In-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices
  • Proficiency in HSE Management Systems
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and strategic planning abilities
  • Strong people skills, time management and training capabilities
  • Experience conducting audits and inspections
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Responsibilities

  • Oversight of the HSE Management System to ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Provide expert advice and assistance on health, safety strategies, programs, systems, policies, standards, and processes
  • Conduct site-level risk assessments and collaborate with location teams to implement actions
  • Develop and implement comprehensive HSE strategies aligned with the organization’s mission
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, permits, and certifications
  • Establish and enforce HSE quality control standards via inspections and assessments
  • Develop and maintain HSE training content and assignments for employees and contractors
  • Lead and coordinate internal and external HSE audits
  • Update, track, and drive performance of key HSE metrics
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Management of Change program
  • Process new chemical inventory requests, maintain SDS database, and ensure current inventories

Job description

In this role, you will be a key member of the Honeywell UOP R&D HSE Team supporting locations in Des Plaines, IL (R&D) and Riverside/McCook, IL (R&D & Manufacturing). As a Sr. HSE Engineer, you will impact on our organization by implementing and maintaining the requirements of the HSE Management System to ensure compliance with regulations and industry best practices. Your ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders will ensure that HSE considerations are integrated into business processes and decision-making, contributing to the overall success and reputation of our business as a responsible and sustainable organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversight of the HSE Management System to ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Provide expert advice and assistance to management and employees on work health and safety strategies, programs, systems, policies, standards, and processes
  • Conduct site-level risk assessments and collaborate with location teams to execute necessary actions and improvements
  • Develop and implement comprehensive HSE strategies that align with the organization's mission, ensuring a culture of safety, health, and environmental responsibility
  • Ensure that the organization complies with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations, permits, and certifications.
  • Establish and enforce HSE quality control standards by conducting regular inspections, performance assessments, corrective action reviews, and self-assessments
  • Develop and maintain training HSE training content, enrollments database, and assignments for new and existing employees and contractors.
  • Lead and coordinate internal and external HSE audits
  • Update, track, and drive performance of key HSE metrics
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Management of Change program.
  • Process new chemical inventory requests, maintain SDS Database, and ensure chemical inventories remain current
YOU MUST HAVE
  • 5+ years of experience in all matters related to HSE within manufacturing, research and development, and/or field related businesses
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Occupational Health & Safey, Environmental Science, or a related field or qualifications in Health, Safety, Environmental, Risk Management, Industrial Hygiene or other appropriate qualification related to HSE
  • In-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices
  • Proficiency in HSE Management Systems
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and strategic planning abilities
  • Strong people skills, time management and personnel training programs
  • Experience undertaking audits and inspections
  • Proficient in general computer software use – word, excel, PowerPoint

  • Ability to inspire and motivate a team
  • Experience with ISO Certifications

Relocation support may be provided

The annual base salary range for this position is $91,200 - $120,000 Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Honeywell considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations
