Job summary

Cockroach Labs is seeking a Senior HR Business Partner to join our People team. You will align talent with business goals, support Roachers in the GTM organization, and provide both hands-on and strategic HR input on employee relations, performance, coaching, compensation, and organizational development.

You will partner with managers to translate objectives into people requirements, lead HR programs, and coach leaders on critical people matters.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of HR experience, preferably in fast-moving, high-growth organizations.
• 5 years in HRBP or People Partner with GTM focus preferred.
• Experience building company culture and increasing employee engagement.
• Ability to influence across multiple organizational layers.
• Track record of strategic partnership with business leaders on multi-year initiatives.
• Judgement and integrity in sensitive situations.
• Excellent communication: facilitation, listening, writing.
• Knowledge of state and federal employment laws and regulations.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior HR Business Partner to join our People team at Cockroach Labs. As a strategic partner, you will closely align our talent and business objectives by directly supporting Roachers in the GTM organization. You will work closely with managers and leaders to provide hands‑on and strategic input, insight, and advice with respect to employee relations, performance management, coaching, compensation, conflict management, organizational development, training, and more. You're comfortable speaking up and driving initiatives forward despite any unexpected roadblocks. You are someone who is interested in making a significant impact and excels in a fast‑paced, high‑engagement environment with an extraordinary desire to innovate.

You Will

• Partner with managers and leaders to translate business objectives into what is required from a people perspective and represent the People Team in your day‑to‑day work with the GTM organization.


• Lead HR programs and processes (performance management, annual reviews, etc.) and provide HR expertise to ensure desired objectives and outcomes are attained.


• Offer thought leadership by coaching and advising leaders on key people matters, including but not limited to team cohesion, individual development, and organizational design.


• Support leaders through periods of organizational change, including team restructuring, role evolution, and workforce planning decisions.


• Develop multi‑year people strategies and design approaches for diagnosing and enhancing organizational effectiveness and employee satisfaction.


• Analyze and interpret various employee reports (e.g., compensation, job levels, and attrition) to guide decision‑making and provide proactive solutions to client groups.


• Partner across the HRBP Team to work on value‑added programs in areas of training, development, career mobility, and job performance.


• Have foundational knowledge of federal and state laws and be willing to explore nuances or explain details to managers and teams, more broadly.


• Collaborate with the People team to champion and accelerate a culture of excellence in which people feel engaged and inspired to deliver top business results.

The Expectations

In your first 30 days, you will learn about our current processes, programs, and systems. You will meet with colleagues across the company and start building relationships that will help you better understand Cockroach Labs. It is imperative that you take this time to connect with fellow Roachers, so that you have an understanding of how we work and what we value.

In your first 60 days, you will gain familiarity with your GTM colleagues. You'll start to think of plans that will play to our strengths, mitigate our weaknesses, and build upon the foundation of processes and programs we offer.

After 3 months, you will be integrated into the team. You will be the primary HR point of contact working directly with GTM. You will leverage strong relationships across our People Team for support and share feedback that can be deployed to improve people processes and programs company‑wide.

You Have

• Minimum 8 years of experience required; preferred experience working in a fast-moving, high-growth organization


• 5 years of experience working with managers and leaders in an HRBP or People Partner capacity; preference for candidates with experience supporting go‑to‑market organizations


• Relevant experience building and improving company culture and increasing employee engagement, and expertise in performance management


• Experience building and maintaining relationships with managers and leaders while influencing across multiple organizational layers


• A track record of strategic partnering with business leaders on multi‑year company or org‑wide people initiatives


• Experience demonstrating judgment and integrity in sensitive situations


• Superb communication skills, including effective facilitation, listening and writing


• Knowledge of HR programs and practices, including applicable state and federal employment laws and regulations
