Job summary

FINITETEK INC in Buffalo, NY is seeking a Senior-Level Highway Design Engineer in its Transportation Department to lead the design of highway, streetscapes, and public works projects.

You will manage scopes, schedules, budgets, mentor staff, coordinate with sub-consultants, ensure codes, and deliver contract plans and bid estimates on time and within budget.

Ideal candidates have a BS in Civil Engineering, NY PE, 10–15 years of highway design and project management, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited BS in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• New York State Professional Engineer registration.
• 10–15 years of highway/public works design and project management experience.
• Strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead design of projects and ensure successful outcomes.
• Prepare scopes of services, work plans, schedules and budgets.
• Oversee technical investigations and design option studies and reports.
• Deliver contract plans, specifications and bid estimates on time and within budget.
• Ensure proper codes and standards are applied and all work is reviewed in detail.
• Mentor mid-level engineers and technicians; supervise sub-consultants.
• Manage client relationships and project financial performance.

Job description

Our client has an immediate opening in its Transportation Department for a Senior-Level Highway Design Engineer with strong technical abilities and leadership skills, and experience in the design of highway, streetscapes, green infrastructure design and other types of public works and utility projects.

Responsibilities:

• Leading the design of large and small projects to successful outcomes
• Preparing scopes of services, project work plans, schedules and budgets
• Overseeing, guiding and assisting in the planning and preparation of technical investigations, studies of design options and alternatives, and reports for the development of projects and technical documentation
• Overseeing, guiding and assisting in design work and delivering contract plans, specifications and bid estimates on-time and within budget
• Ensuring proper codes and standards are being used on projects and that all work is properly reviewed and checked in detail
• Supervision and mentoring of mid-level and junior engineers, and technicians
• Supervision and direction of sub-consultants
• Project management including accountability for meeting technical-excellence objectives, financial-performance goals, and the timely delivery of all contract obligations
• Client management

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from a college or university with an ABET-accredited curriculum or equivalent
• Registered Professional Engineer in New York State
• 10 -15 years of successful design experience in highway and other types of public works and utility design projects, including project management
• Very strong communications skills
• Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office software
• MicroStation and/or Open Roads experience (optional)
• Green Infrastructure modeling (optional)
