What You’ll Do

As a Senior Health and Safety Consultant at DEKRA, you will help save lives, prevent serious injuries, protect environmental resources, and strengthen client safety cultures by driving organizational change. You will lead initiatives to improve Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) performance through expert consulting and by developing services that meet evolving client needs. Your role will also focus on identifying safety consulting opportunities, designing solutions, and supporting clients in achieving safety compliance and excellence.

Seeking a part-time, flexible consultant for a manufacturing site in Eastern Illinois, estimated 3 days per week for up to 18 months (50% travel domestically at the conclusion of the project). Full-time employment may be considered depending on qualifications and organizational needs.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and management of DEKRA’s proprietary Safety products and services.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in an array of Health and Safety regulations, standards, and industry best practices, including:
  • Regulatory & Compliance Expertise:
  • OSHA General Industry and/or Construction Standards (29 CFR 1910 / 1926)
  • Hazard Communication & GHS (29 CFR 1910.1200)
  • Emergency Planning & Response (29 CFR 1910.38/120)
  • Programmatic and Risk Management Expertise:
  • Significant Injury and Fatality (SIF) prevention methodologies
  • Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) and Human Performance principles
  • Job Safety Analysis (JSA)/Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
  • Risk Assessment Methodologies (e.g., bowtie, HAZOP, FMEA)
  • Contractor Safety Management
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Program Development
  • Confined Space Entry Programs
  • Fall Protection Programs
  • Safety Training Program Development and Delivery
  • Cultural and Strategic Expertise:
  • Safety Culture Assessments and Improvement Planning
  • Leading Indicators and Safety Metrics
  • Safety Leadership Coaching
  • Root Cause Analysis (e.g., TapRooT, RCA, 5 Whys)
  • ISO 45001 and Safety Management System Implementation
  • Safety Auditing & Gap Assessments
  • Mergers/Acquisition EHS Due Diligence
  • Provide exceptional customer service to clients using DEKRA’s Safety solutions and in support of DEKRA EHS systems
  • Assess, audit, inspect client systems and operations and offer corrective actions or improvements, where indicated
  • Prepare and deliver reports of findings, recommendations, etc., to client safety and leadership teams
  • Advise clients on best practices and tools to support continuous improvement in safety compliance and performance.
  • Assist clients with the development and improvement of policies, procedures, and trainings.
  • Deliver training to frontline workers in alignment with client requirements

What You’ll Bring:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in EHS or a technical discipline.
  • Experience: 5+ years of EHS experience in consulting, industry, or regulatory settings with demonstrated program leadership.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills; ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to develop actionable recommendations to enable sustainable change
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Demonstrated client relationship management skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, across all organizational levels.
  • Experience with organizational improvement initiatives (e.g., safety, quality).
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, large-scale projects.
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively as a team player, and within client team as a contributing expert
  • Experience with organizational initiatives in safety, quality methods or other organizational change processes/initiatives.
  • Excellent workshop facilitation, training, and presentation skills
  • Experience managing large, complex projects

Physical Considerations:

  • Ability to work in a variety of client locations/environments, including indoors/outdoors and on uneven terrain.
  • Must be able to work variable shifts as required by client operations.
  • Ability to travel extensively, including prolonged driving and air travel.
  • Capable of lifting 25–50 lbs (luggage).
  • Extended periods of computer work and standing.

Travel Considerations:

  • Local travel to manufacturing site in Eastern Illinois, estimated 3 days per week for up to 18 months
  • Domestic travel required, estimated up to 50% thereafter

What You’ll Receive for the Value You Bring:

Compensation: This position allows for hourly professional fees according to confirmed project work; with billable work rates ranging from $75 - $100 per hour. Pay is based on several factors including market location, position-related knowledge, skills, and experience, and placement in a specific consulting level based on experience and work history. Additional details regarding benefit eligibility if being considered for a full-time position will be provided.
