Job description

We are seeking a Sr. Grants and Contracts Analyst who will coordinate all activities related to the pre-award process and coordinate project submissions in the Department of Radiology. The Sr. Grants & Contracts Analyst will work independently on a variety of complex level grants/contracts while supporting faculty with a diversified portfolio of sponsors that include federal, commercial, and foundations. This position will create and review sponsored budgets, budget justifications, and other administrative data for submission to appropriate funding agencies.

The Sr. Grants & Contracts Analyst will provide broad/in-depth professional administrative level guidance on protocols, regulations, and guidelines to Principal Investigators (PIs) and other scientific/research professionals, both within the University and with other associated research/administrative professionals outside of the University. This position offers guidance and learning support to Grants & Contracts Analysts, Specialists, and Coordinators within the department.

This position is supervised by the Grants and Contracts Manager with a reporting relationship to the Associate Administrator to ensure smooth and efficient functioning for the department.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review all sponsored project proposals for accuracy, content, and adherence to all relevant guidelines for assigned faculty prior to being forwarded to the Grants & Contracts Manager and Office of Research Administration (ORA) at the School of Medicine for review/signature.
  • Ongoing collaboration with ORA to ensure successful and timely processing of all grant/contract project proposals through the central approval process.
  • Prepare and assist PI with budget/budget justification development; ensure that all applicable and indirect costs have been applied in adherence with funding announcement and/or agency guidelines, in addition to evaluating for accuracy and inclusiveness.
  • Coordinate submission of grant proposals for new and continuing projects using electronic submission systems - COEUS, ASSIST (NIH), Workspace (Grants.gov), etc. - utilized by various federal, private, and commercial agencies.
  • Complete JHU and sponsor forms as required.
  • Track proposals and other sponsored research documentation through the signature/approval processes to ensure deadlines are met (i.e. Other Support, JIT, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with university and/or federal and/or private agency regulations and restrictions (NIH, Foundations, For-Profit, etc.).
  • Advise faculty and staff on changes in sponsored research policies.
  • Complete and maintain required professional development training.
  • Serve as liaison between research units, central offices, and funding agencies.
  • Understand and utilize institutional policies for pre-award grant process and sponsor guidelines.
  • Assist with internal training initiatives for departmental grants and contracts specialists, analysts, and coordinators, including provide one-on-one training as needed/requested.
  • Assist with development and implementation of departmental SOPs related to sponsored projects administration.
  • Act as Pre-Award Team Lead assisting with review of all outgoing submissions for the Dept. including maintaining current knowledge of submission requirements and disseminating to the team as necessary.
  • Participate in leadership role as Department representative for pre-award related initiatives and updates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Assist faculty in searching for appropriate funding announcements.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Four years of related experience in sponsored research and/or financial positions, preferably in an academic or medical setting.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Successful completion of the Research Administration Trainee program (13-15 months) is equivalent to two years of relevant experience for this position. If an employee does not successfully complete the program, no additional experience will be applied.

Starting Salary Range: $62,900 - $110,100 Annually ($81,120 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
