Job description

At American Logistics, we build the mission‑critical infrastructure that powers national transportation benefits for the healthcare and public transit sectors. For over 25 years, we ’ ve led the NEMT (Non‑Emergency Medical Transportation) market by engineering a sophisticated dispatching ecosystem that integrates global giants like Uber and Lyft with specialized local providers. Our platform solves high‑stakes logistical challenges, ensuring seamless, real‑time coordination for diverse populations with complex needs. Since 1999, we have combined deep industry roots with a modern tech stack to meet the rigorous security and reliability standards of national health plans. By joining our team, you ’ ll tackle complex data‑routing problems and build high‑availability systems that deliver an exceptional, life‑enhancing experience for millions of members.

About the Role

As a Senior Fullstack Engineer, you will focus on the development and optimization of our NEMT platform, including both internal logistics systems and external client‑facing solutions. This is a core software engineering role where you will use modern cloud technologies to build scalable, reliable applications. You will be responsible for decomposing complex requirements into practical technical solutions, collaborating closely with Product, UX, and Engineering teams. The role involves designing and integrating external APIs, maintaining high code quality through mentorship and reviews, and continuously improving our software delivery lifecycle. By leading these technical efforts, you will ensure our products meet the evolving needs of our customers and the high standards of our industry.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement maintainable, well‑tested code for both internal logistics systems and client‑facing applications, ensuring high standards for performance and scalability.
  • Partner with cross‑functional engineering teams to coordinate seamless integrations and architectural changes across interacting platforms and external services.
  • Design, implement, and maintain database schemas, prioritizing data integrity and optimized query performance for data‑intensive transportation workflows.
  • Proactively identify and execute incremental improvements to enhance platform reliability, code maintainability, and overall system quality.
  • Monitor platform health using tools such as CloudWatch and FullStory, leveraging metrics and logs to diagnose and resolve complex production issues efficiently.
  • Adhere to established SDLC processes and healthcare compliance (HIPPA and Data Privacy) requirements across all stages of design, development, testing, and deployment.
  • Contribute to the growth of the engineering team through rigorous code reviews, technical documentation, and the promotion of best practices.
Qualifications
  • At least 8 years of extensive proficiency in Node.js and Express for backend development, complemented by deep expertise in React, Redux, and React Native to build high‑performance internal logistics and client‑facing applications. You bring a strong command of TypeScript and a proven track record of successfully integrating complex external APIs and third‑party services into existing ecosystems.
  • Practical experience managing and optimizing databases such as DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, or MS SQL Server to ensure data integrity and system reliability. This technical foundation is supported by a strict commitment to code quality using automated testing frameworks like Jest, Enzyme, or Cypress and a thorough understanding of modern security best practices and authentication protocols.
  • Hands‑on experience within the AWS ecosystem, specifically leveraging Cognito for identity management, CloudWatch for observability, and RDS, S3, and Glue for data management. You are highly proficient in server‑less and event‑driven architectures, including writing Lambdas, configuring API Gateway, and utilizing Redshift, SQS, and SNS to ensure a robust and scalable production environment.
  • Proven expertise in modern code management and deployment workflows, utilizing GitHub for version control and building/maintaining robust CI/CD pipelines via GitHub Actions. You are proficient in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), ensuring that code changes are integrated, tested, and delivered with high reliability, security, and minimal manual intervention.
  • A clear, respectful, and approachable communicator who thrives in a collaborative team environment and works effectively with Product and UX stakeholders. You are dedicated to taking full ownership of the software lifecycle, mentoring peers, and promoting engineering best practices while maintaining the easy‑to‑work‑with demeanor necessary for a successful cross‑functional team.
