Our Mission

Our mission is to SAVE AND IMPROVE LIVES BY EMPOWERING HEALTHCARE CONSUMERS. Come be part of something remarkable.

Overview

How you can make a difference

HealthEquity is seeking an experienced Senior Fraud Operations Engineer to own our card-fraud intelligence stack—managing Visa Risk Manager (VRM) rules, integrating Visa Account Attack Intelligence (VAAI) and Visa Data Analytics (VDA) insights, and coordinating with Fiserv and the internal card fraud team on dispute workflows. You will drive best-in-class authorization optimization—balancing fraud mitigation with member experience—while delivering real-time analytics, rule tuning, and intelligence-led playbooks. This fully remote role is critical to reducing card losses, improving approval rates, and staying ahead of sophisticated fraud rings.

What you'll be doing
  1. VRM Rule Management & Optimization: Monitor, analyze, and tune VRM rulesets daily—adjust thresholds, block/allow lists, and exception handling to minimize false positives and maximize authorization rates.
  2. Performance Reviews: Track key metrics (approval lift, fraud rate bps, challenge volumes), document changes, and present optimization roadmaps.
  3. Credential Stuffing, Device Risk, Merchant Score Integration: Ingest and operationalize feeds (credential-stuffing indicators, device-risk signals) and intelligence (merchant-specific fraud risk scores, attack-pattern insights) into our fraud-scoring engine.
  4. Collaboration with Visa: Trial new AI-powered products, pilot rule recommendations, and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
  5. Dispute & Chargeback Coordination: Partner with Fiserv's dispute-management team to ensure seamless case data transfer, escalate high-risk disputes, and analyze dispute trends to inform proactive rule adjustments.
  6. Authorization Optimization & Analytics: Develop and maintain BI dashboards (Power BI/Tableau) showing real-time KPIs: net approval rate, fraud loss bps, dispute outcomes, and signal efficacy. Lead A/B tests on rule changes and AI enhancements to measure impact.
  7. Fraud Playbooks & Incident Response: Convert investigation insights into automated playbooks and VRM rule templates for rapid response. Support live-incident response for major fraud events.
  8. Documentation & Training: Author runbooks, rule-change protocols, and guides. Train analysts and stakeholders on tools, fraud indicators, and workflows.
What you will need to be successful
  • 5+ years in payment-card fraud operations or risk management, with hands-on experience in Visa Risk Manager.
  • Proven ability to configure, tune, and monitor VRM rule engines and interpret AI recommendations.
  • Familiarity with Visa Account Attack Intelligence (VAAI) and Visa Data Analytics (VDA).
  • Experience with processors (preferably Fiserv) on dispute escalations and recoveries.
  • Strong analytical skills: SQL, Excel modeling, dashboards (Power BI/Tableau).
  • Deep understanding of card authorization flows, MCC risk profiles, and payment network dynamics.
  • Excellent remote communication skills.
  • Exposure to AI/ML-driven fraud solutions, rule-engine design, or real-time risk scoring.
  • Experience integrating third-party feeds and data enrichment.
  • Knowledge of compliance frameworks (PCI DSS, FFIEC) and privacy regulations.
