Job Description

The Financial Services Department (F$D) is looking for a motivated individual to join the Planning and Analysis group. As a team, the Planning and Analysis group maintains, redefines, develops, and prepares meaningful financial reports, dashboards, and metrics for management reporting. The group identifies and implements financial planning and reporting processes, systems, and reporting tools, all the while coordinating with the Laboratory research and business communities and MIT campus on budgeting and forecasting issues.


Supervised by and working with, the Finance Manager, Planning and Analysis - Research, the Sr. Financial Analyst, Planning and Analysis - Research will play a hands-on role in defining future budgeting, planning and forecasting (BPF) processes for research projects across the enterprise. This position will assist with the implementation and modernization of Laboratory-wide financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, monitoring, and reporting processes undertaken by a wide group of Laboratory Research Division stakeholders.



Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with and drive consensus among technical Division and Group stakeholders to define budgeting, planning and forecasting (BPF) requirements for sponsored projects and other Divisional efforts

  • Develop "to-be" Budgeting/Planning/Forecasting (BPF) processes for both on and off contract sponsored projects

  • Be a central participant on the Core Team for Phase 2+ of the OneStream implementation and assist with configuring in OneStream "to-be" BPF process for sponsored projects

  • Develop and maintain a center of excellence in the Financial Services Department for Planning and Analysis - Research

  • Identify and institutionalize metrics and key performance indicators for sponsored projects

  • Engage with the Business Transformation Office (BTO), the Program Management Office (PMO), Information Services Department (ISD) and other stakeholder organizations to coordinate projects relevant to the Planning and Analysis for research functions


Qualifications - Required

  • 5-10 years of business & financial management of sponsored projects, preferably in a university, government or non-profit research environment

  • Skilled with financial planning, analysis, and reporting tools; successful and proven experience with same a plus

  • Experience in / exposure to developing financial metrics, analytics, visualizations, dashboards, and reporting

  • Demonstrated analytical/problem solving skills and effective written and oral communication skills (including presentations)

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (primarily Excel, Word & PowerPoint); Experience with OneStream a large plus

  • Excellent customer service, verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to analyze, discuss and present financial results/reports

  • Able to work independently, problem solve and drive positive change within an organization

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance

  • Bachelor's degree is required (Business/Finance degree or demonstrated related experience necessary)
