Job summary

HNTB Corporation is seeking a Senior Resident Engineer to oversee senior proficiency level inspection and fieldwork, ensuring construction activities comply with engineering plans and contractual requirements. The role may interface on-site between client, company personnel and the contractor to resolve issues on large or complex projects.

Thisopportunityentailsbeingresponsibleforprovidingseniorproficiencylevelinspectionorconstructionfieldworktomonitorcompliancewithengineering/architecturalplansandspecifications.TheAssistantResidentEngineersupervisestheworkofprojectstafftodeterminethatcontractor'sconstructionactivitiesaremonitoredandcontrolledinaccordancewithdesignspecificationsandcontractualrequirements.Mayserveasinterfaceon-sitebetweenClient,CompanyPersonnelandContractorinresolutionofprojectissues.MayberesponsibleforprojecttasksunderaResidentEngineerorservingastheassistanttotheResidentEngineeronalargeand/orcomplexProject.

WhatYou'llDo:
  • Inspects, observes, documents, and verifies work in progress by the construction contractor to ensure compliance with project schedule, contract documents and plans.
  • Confirms procedures are followed and material used conforms to specifications.
  • Advices Contractor Superintendent or Project Manager of necessary actions to ensure conformance with plan, specs and contract.
  • Reviews and resolves quantity disputes with contractor.
  • Utilizes engineering inspection practices to perform sophisticated and complicated mathematical calculations, constructability and biddability reviews, and measurements of completed work to date.
  • Reviews and check calculations for Inspector's daily report of assigned work activities, contractor labor and equipment, quantity of material received and verified.
  • Performs on-site material testing and produces as-constructed sketches.
  • Leverage relationships with peers for project discovery and talent acquisition.
  • Maintains as-built record drawings.
  • Performs contract close-out documentation.
  • Performance construction schedule reviews, contractor pay estimate reviews, and change order management.
  • Prepares and leads project progress meetings.
  • Serves as field technical subject matter expert.
  • May lead daily assignments, mentor, and train employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
WhatYou'llNeed:
  • Associates degree in Engineering, Construction Services, or related field and 14 years relevant experience, or Bachelor’s in engineering, construction services or related field and 12 years of relevant experience, or In lieu of degree, 16 years of relevant experience.
WhatYou'llBring:
  • Leverages collaborative relationships with peers for project success.
  • Leads project progress meetings to deliver the project to client satisfaction.
  • Leads the project in the absence of the resident engineer or project manager.
  • Serves as the primary project point of contact, as needed.
  • Coordinates the project for multiple sites.
WhatWePrefer:
  • 15 years of relevant experience.
  • In lieu of degree, 19 years of relevant experience.

The approximate pay range for LosAngelesMetroArea and OrangeCounty, CA is $173,075.17 - $276,470.74. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
