Job summary

Group CBS is seeking a hands-on Field Service Technician to test, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and commission electrical power equipment at customer facilities. The role requires working at various regional locations with Monday–Friday schedules and potential on-call rotations.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years in electrical testing/maintenance or substation work, knowledge of NFPA 70E/OSHA/DOT standards, and NETA certification or the ability to obtain Level III/IV.

Qualifications

  • Eight or more years of experience in electrical testing, maintenance, commissioning, or substation work.
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
  • NETA certification or ability to obtain NETA Level III/IV certification.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E, OSHA, DOT standards.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Overview
This is a hands‑on field service role focused on the testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and commissioning of electrical power equipment. You will work at customer facilities performing complex electrical and mechanical tasks while helping ensure power systems operate safely and reliably. If you enjoy problem solving, working independently, and supporting critical infrastructure, this role offers variety and technical challenge every day.
What You Will Do
Field service operations

  • Perform testing, maintenance, commissioning, upgrades, and repairs on electrical power equipment
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and diagnose electrical and mechanical issues in substations and power systems
  • Read and interpret schematics, drawings, manuals, and technical documentation
  • Complete service reports, testing documentation, and customer deliverables
  • Support emergency response work and customer outage situations as needed
  • Maintain tools, test equipment, vehicles, and work areas in a clean and organized condition
Electrical testing and technical support
  • Perform transformer testing including power factor, TTR, insulation resistance, winding resistance, and related testing
  • Conduct cable testing including insulation resistance, tan delta, hipot, TDR, and partial discharge testing
  • Perform circuit breaker testing, diagnostics, and maintenance
  • Test and troubleshoot protective relays and associated control systems
  • Assist with installation, startup, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment
  • Identify equipment issues and recommend corrective actions
Project and safety support
  • Support planning, scheduling, execution, and cost management of field projects
  • Participate in and lead safety meetings, training sessions, and job briefings
  • Establish and follow lockout/tagout procedures and safe work practices
  • Ensure compliance with company, customer, and industry safety standards
  • Provide guidance and technical support to less experienced technicians

May be modified from time to time. Other duties, tasks, and work may be assigned.

What We Are Looking For
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology, military experience, or related technical training preferred
  • Eight or more years of experience in electrical testing, maintenance, commissioning, or substation work
  • Strong knowledge of electrical power systems and testing procedures
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical issues
  • Familiarity with NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA, DOT, and related industry standards
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office, email, and technical reporting systems
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • NETA certification or ability to obtain NETA Level III or IV certification
Physical And Work Requirements
  • Ability to lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in electrical substations and industrial environments
  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching, and kneeling
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to travel for overnight and multi‑day assignments
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to pass required background screening, motor vehicle screening, and drug and alcohol testing
