Job summary

GlobalFoundries in Malta, NY seeks a Failure Analysis Lab Technician to perform routine analytical work, sample preparation (TEM/SEM) and imaging, and to report results on a 12-hour night shift with a 12.5% differential.

You will collaborate with lab engineers, maintain equipment, and assist with training and continuous improvement initiatives. Requires a 2-year technical/associate's degree and English fluency; SEM/FIB/TEM experience is preferred. Relocation assistance available.

Qualifications

• English language fluency (written & spoken) required.
• 2-year technical/associate's degree in science, math, engineering, electrical engineering, semiconductor manufacturing or related discipline or equivalent military training/experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine analytical jobs using defined procedures ensuring cycle time and quality targets.
• Collaborate with lab engineers/managers to define analytical methods and interpret results.
• Perform basic preventive maintenance on analytical equipment to minimize downtime.
• Prepare samples (e.g., TEM/SEM) for subsequent analyses.
• Use standard software for job management and results reporting.
• Identify areas for improvement to reduce cycle time, increase utilization and reduce costs.
• Train new team members and promote a positive work environment.
• Complete reporting and documentation as required.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives with urgency.

Summary of Role

This position is in the Failure Analysis Laboratory in GlobalFoundries 300mm fab in Malta, New York. The ideal candidate will have some technical understanding in semiconductor failure analysis using sample preparation, imaging, and analytical techniques. The candidate will have a solid understanding of semiconductor technology and manufacturing. This will be on a night shift (7PM - 7AM), shift differential of 12.5% applies.

Essential Responsibilities

• Conduct routine analytical jobs using defined and documented procedures meeting or exceeding cycle time and quality standard expectations
• Interact with lab engineers & managers defining analytical methods needed to achieve expected results, meeting expectations of analyses and interpretation of results
• Perform basic preventive maintenance activities of analytical equipment as needed. Assure smooth operation by minimizing stand-by and idle time
• Perform necessary sample preparation techniques (ex. TEM/SEM sample preparation etc.) to enable subsequent analyses to be conducted
• Use standard software applications for analytical job management and results reporting
• Identify and address potential areas for improvement and optimization, cycle time, utilization and cost
• Assists with training others to increase efficiency Good team player, strong work ethic, train new team members as needed and other duties as assigned, and proactively promotes a positive work environment
• Complete all required reporting and documentation
• Actively participate in continuous improvement processes with a sense of urgency

Required Qualification

• Education - 2 Year Technical/associate's degree in science, Math, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Semiconductor Manufacturing or a related discipline or equivalent military training / experience plus 2-3 years relevant experience
• Fluency in English Language – both written & verbal
• Able to perform shift work on a 12-hour night shift schedule
• Able to follow work and safety procedures for the laboratory environment
• Able to follow detailed instructions and procedures to complete tasks and required documentation; demonstrate solid work performance in an environment requiring a high level of attention to detail and timeliness
• Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize activities

Preferred Qualifications

• Semiconductor process knowledge
• Experience using SEM, FIB, TEM sample preparation, TEM imaging.
• Direct experience working in an analytical laboratory, preferably related to failure analysis, materials science, inorganic chemistry or semiconductor manufacturing would be an advantage
• Direct knowledge of one or more analysis methodologies used in failure analysis for state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing

Expected Salary Range

Expected Salary Range $48,200.00 - $83,200.00 The exact Salary will be determined based on qualifications, experience and location.
