Job summary

Lyten is seeking a hands-on Sr. Engineering Technician to support the development, optimization, and daily operation of our battery electrode manufacturing line.

You will work with Process Engineers and R&D to execute experiments on pilot-scale equipment and ensure high yield and quality. Responsibilities include setting up equipment, running DOE trials, measuring viscosity, coating thickness, and mass loading, and helping scale from lab to full production while maintaining strict documentation

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry or experimental physics with 2+ years of relevant experience, OR Bachelor's in an unrelated field with 5+ years in R&D or low-volume manufacturing, OR 1+ year with significant responsibilities at a high-volume cell manufacturing facility
• Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem solving skills for real-time equipment troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with standard lab and measurement tools (micrometers, viscometers, balances, optical microscopes).
• Preferred: familiarity with data entry and analysis tools (Excel, JMP, or MES).
• Experience with materials characterization (SEM, XRD, PSA) and equipment installation/startup/scale-up.

Responsibilities

• Equipment Operation: set up, operate, and maintain pilot-scale electrode manufacturing equipment (planetary/high-shear mixers, slot-die coaters, calender).
• Process Execution: run DOE trials and routine production runs under process engineers.
• Quality & Metrology: perform in-line/offline measurements to monitor quality and SPC.
• Troubleshooting & Maintenance: provide frontline technical support to minimize line downtime.
• Documentation: update SOPs, batch records, build logs, and maintenance checklists.
• Cross-Functional Support: work with R&D, Quality, and Manufacturing to scale processes from lab to production.

Sr. Engineering Technician

We are seeking a hands-on Sr. Engineering Technician to support the development, optimization, and daily operation of our battery electrode manufacturing line. Working closely with Process Engineers and R&D, you will execute experimental runs, operate pilot-scale equipment, maintain strict quality control, and troubleshoot real-time production issues to ensure high process yield and consistency.

Key Responsibilities

• Equipment Operation: Set up, operate, and maintain pilot-scale electrode manufacturing equipment, including planetary/high-shear mixers, slot-die coaters, and calender.
• Process Execution: Execute Design of Experiments (DOE) trials and routine production runs under the direction of process engineers, carefully tracking critical process parameters.
• Quality & Metrology: Conduct in-line and offline measurements (e.g., slurry viscosity/rheology, coating thickness, mass loading, particle size analysis) to monitor product quality and statistical process control.
• Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Act as frontline technical support to identify, document, and resolve real-time process defects and mechanical issues to minimize line downtime.
• Documentation: Draft and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), batch records, build logs, maintenance checklists with high attention to detail.
• Cross-Functional Support: Collaborate with R&D, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to support process scaling from lab-scale prototypes to full production lines.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field (e.g., engineering, chemistry, experimental physics) and 2+ years of relevant experience OR Bachelor's degree (unrelated field) AND 5+ years of experience in R&D or low volume manufacturing OR 1+ years of experience with significant responsibilities at a high-volume cell manufacturing facility (e.g., PENA or Tesla) OR Associate's degree in related field (engineering, chemistry, experimental physics) AND 4+ years of relevant experience OR Associate's degree (unrelated field) AND 6+ years of experience in R&D or low volume manufacturing OR 2+ years of experience with significant responsibilities at a high volume cell manufacturing facility (e.g., PENA or Tesla)

Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem solving skills for real-time equipment troubleshooting.

Familiarity with standard lab and measurement tools (e.g., micrometers, viscometers, balances, optical microscopes).

Preferred Qualifications

Basic proficiency with data entry and analysis tools (Excel, JMP, or manufacturing execution systems).

Experience assisting with materials characterization (e.g., SEM, XRD, PSA).

Prior involvement in equipment installation, startup, or scale-up activities.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and lift up to 35 lbs. as required by daily operations.

The expected base salary range for this position is between

$42.12 - $63.17 The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise.
