Job summary

Sun Chemical, a member of the DIC Group, seeks an experienced Senior Project Engineer to lead major CAPEX projects across the Americas within budget and timeline targets. The role sits in the Group Engineering organization and requires managing multi-phase projects from idea through start-up, coordinating with R&D, Operations, EHS and Procurement, and delivering KPI-driven outcomes.

• Experience in Process Engineering required.
• Strong interpersonal/communication skills.
• MS Office and MS Project experience; SAP desirable.
• Travel: Minimal travel of less than 25%.

Responsibilities

• Plan and Execute defined scope of CAPEX measures and projects within budget, time, quality and safety parameters.
• Prepare project approval documentation.
• Carry out all project phases from idea to start-up.
• Prepare designs, cost estimates, schedules, and risk analyses (HAZOPs, change orders).
• Coordinate project work with interfaces (R&D, Operations, EHS, Maintenance, Legal, Procurement, suppliers).
• Ensure compliance with practices, guidelines, regulations and legislation.
• Manage project members, consultants and contractors.
• Specify and select services, machinery, equipment.
• Report to Steering Committee/Senior Management.
• Ensure project documentation and post-completion evaluation (KPIs, lessons learned).
• Review and update engineering processes and procedures.
• Coach less experienced colleagues.

Position Summary

As a member of the Group Engineering organization, manage major CAPEX measures and projects (or their subprojects) through all project phases within defined budget, timeline, and quality parameters across the Americas regions.

Essential Job Functions

• Plan and Execute defined scope of CAPEX measures and projects (or their own subprojects) within budget, time, quality and safety parameters.
• Prepare project approval documentation.
• Carry out all project phases, from project idea to scoping, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and start-up.
• Prepare relevant designs, cost estimates, time schedules, resource plans, risk analysis including HAZOPs, change orders, etc.
• Coordinate project work with relevant interfaces (internal & external) such as R&D, Operations, EHS, Maintenance, Legal M&A, Procurement, authorities, suppliers, contractors, etc.
• Ensure full compliance with the best internal and external practices, guidelines, regulations and legislation.
• Select and functionally manage assigned project members. Select and manage engineering consultants and contractors.
• Specify and select services, machinery, equipment, etc.
• Responsible for regular project controlling & reporting into Steering Committee/Senior Management.
• Ensure appropriate project and technical documentation is met.
• Responsible for post-completion project evaluation (KPIs, lessons learned, etc.).
• Review, develop and update engineering processes and procedures.
• Coaching of less experienced colleagues.

Required Education and Experience

• 15+ years of experience in project engineering or comparable technical roles, and 10 years of direct project experience as Project Manager. Preference for the experience to be in the chemical industry.
• Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering or other related field.
• Experience in Process Engineering required.
• Understanding of or experience in NFPA, ICC, Cost Engineering desirable.
• Ability to work in a professional group setting as well as independently; highly organized and able to manage multiple projects and complete them on time.
• Strong interpersonal/communication skills required. Candidate should possess strong oral and written communication skills.
• Solid computer literacy, experience with MS Office and MS Project. Experience with SAP is desirable.
• Minimal travel of less than 25%.
