Job Summary
The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading one or more engineering teams. The Engineering Manager will drive the execution of high-quality engineering deliverables, processes and/or projects from start to finish, encompassing the entire lifecycle of the product, engage and develop the team, and ensure robust solutions. The Engineering Manager will have strong technical skills, excellent project management abilities, and effective communication. Responsible for hiring, retaining, growing, and mentoring the engineering teams.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Lead, develop, and motivate a multidisciplinary team including, but not limited to Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Stress, Safety, and Project engineers.
  2. Lead the development, proposal creation, project capture, cost/schedule baselining, and successful launch of projects.
  3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement continuous improvement projects.
  4. Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, through activities including initial meetings, onsite visits, business development, and technical reviews.
  5. Specify major equipment, develop bid packages, conduct technical and commercial reviews, make bid recommendations, and review engineering artifacts.
  6. Develop training programs and mentor engineers, fostering positive morale.
  7. Guide the team through rigorous product development processes to ensure predictable performance.
  8. Drive technical strategy, architecture, and operational readiness for assigned product lines.
  9. Lead Research and Development activities of new technologies.
  10. Lead root causes analysis activities on products, technical problems, and documentation.
  11. Develop and maintain relationships with all necessary internal engineering organizations to ensure a well-integrated development process and technical outcome.
  12. Lead the performance of the engineering team to ensure the team meets business objectives, design quality, and project timelines.
  13. Conduct regular staff meetings to ensure that the team is well informed and engaged with the company.
  14. Ensure team's change management practices align with the organization's processes.
  15. Collaborate with international manufacturing locations during development and serial production to maximize production yields.
  16. Experience with development utilizing: ARP4754, DO160, APQP, and ARP4761, MIL-STD-810 (preferred).
  17. Knowledge of Earned Value Management Systems for project controls.
  18. Act as the initial point of escalation for issues or challenges encountered by the team. Capable of effectively prioritizing and de-escalating issues with impacted parties.
  19. Develop and perform project and process plans, implements policies and procedures, and sets operational goals.
  20. Lead projects or initiatives at the direction of the engineering organization to implement process/product improvements.
  21. Other duties may be assigned.
  22. Provides input on resource planning and policy development.

  9. Provide technical guidance to employees, colleagues, and/or customers.
  10. Accountable for the budget, performance, and results of a medium-sized team or multiple small teams of employees.
  11. Exercise full management authority, including performance reviews, pay decisions, recruitment, discipline, termination, and other personnel actions.
  12. Address issues with impact beyond own team based on knowledge of related disciplines.
  13. Define team operating standards and ensures essential procedures are followed based on knowledge of own discipline.
Job Requirements

Education/Experience

  1. Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, aerospace, electrical, engineering technology, manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, or systems engineering.
  2. 5-8 years of experience in product development lifecycle which comprises requirements engineering, detailed design, testing, and qualification.

Senior Engineering Manager: 8 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience. 3+ years of people management experience wherein the candidate is responsible for performance management and career development of the reporting employees.
