Job summary

Johnson Controls International plc. is seeking a skilled engineering support professional to assist in the development and testing of variable speed drives and related test fixtures.

You will work under supervision to build, test, and troubleshoot electronic systems in a fast-paced environment. The role emphasizes hands-on fabrication, data collection, and clear technical communication with engineers, technicians, and vendors.

Qualifications

  • AS degree in engineering science (EE or EET preferred).
  • Min 3 years direct work experience with electronic instrumentation.
  • Experience with 380V–600V three-phase power.
  • Experience troubleshooting basic electronic circuits.
  • Proficiency with hand tools for fabricating electronic/power assemblies.
  • Soldering of thru-hole and SMT components at PCB level.
  • Strong verbal and written technical communication.
  • Ability to work in lab, manufacturing, or field environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to Prototype Build and Test teams for VSDs and fixtures.
  • Design, fabricate or arrange testing of parts and sub-systems.
  • Collect and analyze test data and cost data.
  • Prepare sketches and drawings and design documents.
  • Review and mark drawings to support drafting and design documents.
  • Coordinate between customers and departments to design, build and test components.
  • Lead tasks within a project.
  • Troubleshoot nonconforming systems and recommend fixes.
  • Write test procedures and provide training as needed.

Full job description
What you will do

Perform engineering support activities including hands on construction and testing for the development of new or modified components or products. Troubleshoot electrical device problems to ensure that issues are resolved efficiently.

How you will do it
  • Under direction and guidance of supervisor and senior technicians, provide technical support to and communication among the Prototype Build and Test team to assist in efficient execution of building and testing Variable Speed Drives and associated test fixtures.
  • Design, fabricate or arrange for fabrication and testing of parts, components and sub-systems.
  • Collect and analyze data, e.g., test data, cost data.
  • Prepare complex and non-standard sketches and drawings and prepare design documents.
  • Review and mark drawings to support drafting and design documents.
  • Perform routine system and component calculations, selections and write specifications.
  • Coordinate between customers and other departments to design, build and test component systems.
  • Lead tasks within a project.
  • Troubleshoot nonconforming systems and components for manufacturing, service, test lab, etc., and make recommendations.
  • Perform tests and write test procedures.
  • Provide limited technical guidance and assistance to operators as necessary to complete and coordinate activities.
  • Provide and exchange technical information to vendors, customers and inspectors for assigned products and components.
  • Order, receive, and deliver equipment and information using company procedures.
  • Follow codes and procedures related to the job.
  • Provide training to others in areas of technical and practical knowledge.
  • Communicate technical information in written, verbal, and graphical form in a clear and precise manner.
  • Follow, and participate in creation of standard procedures, test standards, test procedures, and processes.
  • Adhere to the Company’s Code of Conduct and Business Ethics standards.
What we look for
  • AS degree in engineering science (EE, EET preferred) and a minimum of 3 years direct work experience with electronic instrumentation, including DVMs, power analyzers and oscilloscopes is required (other relevant education or a combination may be considered).
  • Experience working with three phase power from 380V to 600V.
  • Experience troubleshooting basic electronic circuits.
  • Experience using various hand tools for fabrication of electronic/power assemblies and sub-assemblies.
  • Experience using various hand crimp tools for fabrication of wire harnesses is preferred.
  • Experience soldering and removing both thru‑hole and surface mount components at PCB level.
  • Ability to follow instructions with or without agreement.
  • Strong ability to multi‑task.
  • Possess strong verbal and written technical communication skill.
  • Ability to interact efficiently and cooperatively within technical role with engineers and technicians.
  • Able to work in environments ranging from laboratory to manufacturing/testing facilities to field sites.
  • Able to work in fast‑paced, schedule driven work environment; possess the agility/adaptability to quickly move from one task to another when required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint), as well as Internet software.
  • Possess the willingness and ability to quickly learn new concepts/technologies on typically steep learning curves.
