Overview
Under the general supervision of the Section Manager, provides support for O&R's distribution automation operational technology (OT) systems. This position offers subject matter expertise with real-time data and applications within O&R's DSCADA, ADMS, modeling, and supporting systems. These systems are crucial for meeting the objectives of the New York Public Service Commission's ("PSC") Reforming the Energy Vision ("REV") initiative for Distributed System Platform ("DSP") enablement, as outlined in the Company Distributed System Implementation Plan ("DSIP"). Distribution automation with centralized model-based control is key to supporting the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act's ("CLCPA") goals. The senior engineer develops strategies for deploying distribution automation devices and ensures compliance with policies, cybersecurity, industry, and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Collaborate with users to prepare requirements and analyses for system enhancements or new developments.
- Develop functional scope and design documentation for OT system enhancements.
- Design enhancements and coordinate projects for real-time platforms.
- Configure and support solution deployment, coordinate testing, and troubleshoot issues.
- Provide recommendations for OT design improvements with implementation plans.
- Partner with the team to prioritize and plan project tasks, ensuring schedule and budget adherence.
- Develop plans and processes for data sharing based on departmental, system, and user requirements.
- Conduct market research and technology vetting for the DSIP.
- Support the company's vision for energy efficiency, electrification, and distributed energy resource participation.
- Enable opportunities using statistical modeling and data analytics; establish data governance for OT data to advance DSIP initiatives.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Master's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security, or equivalent with 6+ years of utility or electrical engineering experience, or
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security, or equivalent with 8+ years of relevant experience.
Preferred Education/Experience
- Master's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security, or equivalent with 6+ years of experience in a utility or electrical engineering environment.
Relevant Work Experience
- Programming or scripting to automate tasks.
- Providing SME-level support for real-time environments.
- Excellent communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Proven project management and system implementation experience.
- Mentoring and training peers or staff.
- Availability for on-call, off-shift work, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders.
- Teamwork, leadership, organizational, and multitasking skills.
- Willingness to travel for meetings and training.
- Experience in critical 24x7 real-time computing environments and electric utility distribution.
- Knowledge of SCADA protocols and statistical data modeling (preferred).
Licenses and Certifications
- Driver's License required.
- P.E. License preferred.
Additional Physical Demands
- Respond to emergencies and perform System Emergency Assignments.
- Travel within service territory as needed.
