Job summary

Corning Incorporated in North Carolina seeks a Process Engineer to reduce defects by identifying root causes and collaborating with suppliers to improve performance. You will apply DMAIC, DOE and statistical tools to enhance quality, yield and cost metrics across manufacturing lines.

The role includes documenting SOPs, SOP changes, and project work that may support multiple Corning divisions or R&D. Travel up to 75% within NC and other domestic facilities may occur.

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in chemical, materials, ceramic or mechanical engineering (MS preferred).
• 3-5 years experience in engineering/manufacturing with a track record of solving process problems based on fundamental understanding.
• Ability to apply knowledge of engineering principles to technical assignments and projects.
• Creative and innovative problem solving approaches, methods, and execution.
• Experience completing projects in a manufacturing organization.
• Excellent analytical skills - data-driven decision making.
• Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions.

Responsibilities

• Support design and development of new or improved processes at Corning facilities worldwide.
• Lead and support solving problems and improving processes using structured methods (Six Sigma, DOE, KT).
• Champion Process Control and Process Discipline systems in manufacturing operations; analyze data with statistical tools.
• Measure performance, recommend actions, document processes, and mentor operators on defined processes.

Role Purpose

In this role, you will use creativity, sound judgment, and flexibility to reduce defects by identifying and eliminating root causes. You will collaborate with suppliers to improve performance and ensure measurement and inspection systems meet customer requirements. Using the scientific method, DMAIC methodology, and advanced statistical tools, you will improve processes and solve complex manufacturing challenges. You will also have the opportunity to positively impact manufacturing cost, quality, uptime, yield, cycle time, and safety by evaluating new raw materials, equipment, and process parameters. Responsibilities include documenting SOPs, SOSs, experiment plans, and process changes, with projects that may support any Corning division or Research and Development function.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the design and development of new processes or improvement to existing processes at Corning facilities worldwide
• Lead and support solving problems and improving processes based on fundamental understanding and structured problem solving methods such as KT, Designed Experimentation, or Six Sigma.
• Champion the implementation of Process Control and Process Discipline systems into manufacturing operations, as well as, use your analytical skills to analyze process data using statistical tools (e.g. pareto, regression, time charting, analysis of variance, gauge R&R, etc.).
• Other responsibilities include measuring and communicating performance against established objectives, reviewing and interpreting data to make recommendations on immediate actions, long term corrective actions, follow-up experiments, etc., and documenting processes and mentoring operators and peers on defined processes

Travel Requirements

• Travel is primarily within NC region, but potential to other domestic production facilities. Frequency and duration vary according to project stage and status but is expected to be up to 75%.

Required Education And Skills

• Bachelors Degree in chemical, materials, ceramic or mechanical engineering (MS preferred)

The range for this position is $84,932.00 - $116,782.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
