Job description

EEC Environmental is seeking an exceptional, ambitious, and entrepreneurial Senior/Principal Engineer to play a key leadership role in the continued growth and success of our Orange County office. This is more than a project management position. It is a unique opportunity to help shape the future direction of our engineering practice, develop and mentor the next generation of technical leaders, and build lasting relationships with clients throughout California and beyond.

As a senior member of our team, you will lead high-profile water, wastewater, utility, and site development projects while serving as a trusted advisor to clients and a strategic leader within the organization. You will have significant influence over project delivery, business development initiatives, team growth, and operational excellence.

For candidates seeking long-term career growth, this position offers a clear pathway to expanded leadership responsibilities and firm-wide impact. Individuals who demonstrate excellence in client service, business development, technical leadership, and team building will have the opportunity to advance into a Principal-level leadership role with increasing responsibility for guiding the company's strategic growth and success.

Candidates with the desired experience in ONE OR BOTH disciplines listed below are encouraged to apply.

Project Management Responsibilities
  • Oversight and execution of project tasks to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables.

  • Preparing for and participating in meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other parties.
  • Recruiting, managing and mentoring junior staff and mid-career engineers and scientists.
  • Participate in local and national technical associations (e.g. ASCE, WEF, AWRA, GRA, etc.).

  • Reviewing and preparing technical reports, construction documents, and specifications.
  • Occasional fieldwork including contractor oversight and process troubleshooting tasks.
DISCIPLINE 2: Civil/Utility Design Responsibilities
  • Manage a range of projects including ground-up development, redevelopment, wet/dry utility design, and grading and drainage projects for industrial, commercial, educational, and municipal clients.
  • Manage conceptual, preliminary, and construction drawing development.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and due diligence assessments for potential projects.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation for project review and approval.
  • Perform hydrology and hydraulics analyses to inform design decisions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure projects meet community needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide client services such as cost estimating, bidding and construction support, RFI review/response, etc.
  • Occasional fieldwork including construction administration tasks.
  • Approves all drawing packages, exhibits and documents assembled.
Must Have Qualifications
  • BS in Engineering with 8+ years of demonstrated experience in the consulting industry with private and public projects.
  • Valid Professional Engineer (PE) license (California or other).

  • Working knowledge of Federal and California regulations.
  • Experience with managing multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed.
  • Valid U.S driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel.
  • Proficient with MS Office software.
  • Experience with ACAD and/or Civil 3D.
  • Strong oral and technical writing skills.
Why Join EEC Environmental?
  • A leadership opportunity, not just a technical role.
  • A chance to shape the future of the company.
  • A pathway to Principal and executive-level influence.
  • An opportunity to build a practice and grow clients.
  • A chance to mentor and develop future leaders.
  • A role with strategic impact, not simply project execution.

We are looking for a highly motivated leader who thrives on solving complex engineering challenges, developing strong client partnerships, building high-performing teams, and helping drive the growth of a respected and rapidly expanding consulting practice. Candidates who bring initiative, vision, and a passion for mentorship will find exceptional opportunities to make a lasting impact at EEC Environmental.
