Job Summary

The Global Equipment Engineering Team has an essential role within West’s Global Engineering to support the company’s growth by providing state of the art production equipment and continuous improvement of the existing equipment to secure West’s technical leadership role in the market. In this role, you will be a key member of the Global Equipment Integration & Controls Subject Matter Expert (SME) team. You will support equipment through the entire lifecycle process focusing on equipment controls, network connectivity, legacy equipment support and data acquisition in our global production facilities. You will work closely with other engineering functions — process engineering, quality groups, our D&T Network, plant controls technicians and other site teams.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Become part of the global Integration and Controls equipment SME team and lead engineering, management, plant operations and global team members while working with vendors to develop engineering specifications for new equipment or required improvements on existing equipment to support global network connectivity and data acquisition for all manufacturing equipment.
  • Drive forward the standardization and harmonization of production equipment and associated documentation across the global network.
  • Stay up to date on new and future controls and connectivity standards and trends; identify value-added improvements that may be beneficial.
  • Work independently and with vendors to convey requirements related to equipment controls, network connectivity, and data acquisition.
  • Support global sites in connecting equipment to Network/Cloud and coordinate data needs for cloud presentation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather what data needs to be presented in the cloud.
  • Work with the D&T team to develop and execute the equipment interface with MES/SAP systems.
  • Take the lead in systematic problem-solving activities when manufacturing plants need support.
  • Coordinate and/or execute GMP-related validations and/or process engineering evaluations as needed for manufacturing equipment.
  • Project management: lead equipment projects from URS to PQ, applying current project management practices and GMP documentation.
  • Perform drawing and code reviews to ensure equipment conforms to globally unified safety standards and major components align with West standardization efforts.
  • Create network drawings and work with West D&T to attach equipment to the West network for data acquisition and remote support.
  • Support SCADA development, testing, and deployment with global D&T; provide elevated support to plant technicians for troubleshooting and repair of latest/legacy equipment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve equipment-related corporate goals and ensure alignment with Safety Regulations.
  • Work independently on West Internal Projects and coordinate with other West sites following guidelines.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent required.
Work Experience
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of in-depth knowledge and experience in electrical & controls systems and network connectivity.
  • Excellent understanding of machine source codes.
  • Experience in managing complex problems related to system functionality and network connectivity.
  • Proven working experience in project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects in a dynamic environment with minimal direction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English).
Preferred Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Ability to drive change and think outside the box.
  • Experience managing projects in the manufacturing industries.
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills.
  • Outstanding leadership and organizational skills.
  • Reading and coding in LD, FBD, IL, SCL and ST.
  • Experience with platforms such as Siemens, Rockwell, Mitsubishi, Pro-face, etc.
  • Knowledge of developing Visio diagrams (Flowchart, process steps).
  • Experience with software packages to evaluate system design and safety performance levels.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, PowerBI and Microsoft Office programs including Visio.
  • Functional understanding of cGMPs.
  • Ability to comply with the company’s safety policy at all times.
License and Certifications
  • Siemens PLC Certification (TIA Portal / Step 7) preferred.
  • Rockwell Automation Certification (ControlLogix / Studio 5000) preferred.
  • Industrial Networking Certification (PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, OPC UA) preferred.
Travel Requirements

20%: Up to 52 business days per year

Physical Requirements

Sedentary work; exerting up to 10 lbs/4 kg of force occasionally; ability to sit for extended periods.

  • Support and contribute to Lean Sigma programs and activities toward target delivery.
  • Comply with safety responsibilities and company safety policy at all times.
  • Respect and adhere to the company quality policy and cGMP requirements (DIN ISO 15378, DIN EN ISO 9001, DIN ISO 45001) and apply Lean Sigma principles.
  • Adhere to IEC guidelines for specifications.
