Job summary

West Pharmaceutical Services in Saint Petersburg, FL seeks a maintenance technician to perform a wide range of electrical and control system work, install and validate equipment and execute preventive maintenance to ensure safe, compliant operations. You will troubleshoot drives, PLCs and VFDs, source parts, document activities and collaborate with Engineering, QA and Safety on improvements.

Shift is Monday–Friday 7:15 AM–2:30 PM, with overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years progressive maintenance and leadership experience.
• Experience with FDA regulations in relation to Facilities, Maintenance and Equipment repair.
• Experience in plastic injection and/or medical device manufacturing preferred.
• Experience in managing projects.
• Experience with automation systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify problems by reading schematics and perform repairs to ensure safe operation.
• Troubleshoot and repair drives, PLCs, VFDs, and control systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance on drives and control systems.
• Recommend and implement improvements to plant equipment and processes.

Job Summary

Perform a wide variety of duties with machinery maintenance, especially in electrical and control system wiring and troubleshooting. Program, repair and perform PMs on equipment and drives on equipment to maintain safe operation of equipment, production, and quality. Other responsibilities include sourcing parts for obsoleted parts and ordering them, documenting all the maintenance activities performed, installation and validations of equipment. Will support and help other groups like Engineering, Process, QA, Safety and facilities in resolving problems, improvements, investigations etc.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Identify the problem by reading schematics/prints, where available, and make necessary repairs on the equipment or system to ensure safe operation of the machine or system.
• Troubleshoot and repair drives, PLCs, VFDs, and control systems on various equipment.
• Perform PMs on drives and control systems.
• Recommend and implement improvements and technological advancement to plant equipment and manufacturing processes, where necessary.
• Participate in decision making process regarding specifications, testing, installation and validation of new systems or during replacement of obsoleted system.
• Train and guide team members regarding controls aspect and upgrades.
• Help team members on rebuild/retrofit machine or machine components as per specifications.
• Perform installation, replacement or decommissioning of equipment.
• Perform validations, as necessary, for equipment.
• Identify and locate parts in the stock room through MP2 or other such system.
• Participate in various company run programs like CI, Safety initiatives, Audits, investigations etc.

Additional Responsibilities

• Support projects and improvement initiatives from engineering, process, QA, Safety and operations group.
• Document performed tasks for the day into the maintenance log, before the end of the shift.
• Safeguard all corporate or plant confidential information.
• Use good housekeeping practices to maintain clean, orderly and safe work area.
• Upgrade technical skills by various educational workshops, on‑site or off‑site trainings supported by WEST.
• Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety rules.
• Exhibits regular, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education

Education: High School or GED.

AS Degree/Certification is preferred.

Excellent Electrical/Electronic and PLC troubleshooting skill on various platforms and some programming skill is preferred.

Excellent and thorough understanding of machine operability and mechanical assemblies

Read and interpret electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics

Available for overtime, self‑starter, a team player and should be able to work independently

Work Experience

• Minimum 3 years Progressive maintenance and leadership experience may be substituted for educational requirements. required and.
• Experience with FDA regulations in relation to Facilities, Maintenance and Equipment repair required and.
• Experience in plastic injection and or medical device manufacturing preferred.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Programming skills of VFD’s and PLC’s.
• Some knowledge of utility maintenance like boiler, chillers and compressors.
• Sound knowledge of CMMS and MS Office.
• Any other certification is a plus.

License and Certifications

• Certification in one or more of the key building trades. preferred

Travel Requirements

10%: Up to 26 business days per year

Physical Requirements

Medium-Exerting up to 50lb/22kg of force occasionally and/or up to 20lbs/9kg of force frequently, and/or up to 10lbs/4kgs of force constantly to move objects.
