Overview

Steam Plant Systems Engineering is seeking a motivated and dedicated Systems Engineer for Rotating and Balance of Plant Systems. The ideal candidate will demonstrate high energy, a commitment to excellence, and alignment with Con Edison’s values and mission. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential for effective communication with customers, agencies, and management. The candidate should be a self-starter with sound judgment, well-organized, detail-oriented, flexible, and able to meet deadlines. Strong communication and leadership skills, including supervision and motivation, are required. Availability for emergency work 24/7 is also necessary. A bachelor's degree in engineering is required, with a thorough understanding of turbo-machinery, gas turbines, steam turbines, and related equipment in utility, oil & gas, or marine industries. Experience with plant software and analysis tools (such as AMS), auxiliary systems, inspection, repair, environmental processes, and knowledge of regulations and industry standards are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform System Condition Assessments to identify deficiencies, review equipment operation, and drive corrective actions.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication among internal and external organizations.
  • Review and maintain System Descriptions, P&IDs, and design basis documentation.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of failures and outages.
  • Provide engineering support to Steam Generating Stations.
  • Participate in project planning, outages, and construction.
  • Generate or review acceptance test plans and oversee testing/commissioning.
  • Coordinate with equipment and service providers.
  • Create detailed reports and presentations for management and planning.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with 8 years of relevant experience, or
  • Master's Degree in Engineering with 6 years of relevant experience.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Accountability, flexibility, and ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, with leadership qualities.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills.
  • Experience in electric and steam power plants, gas turbines, steam turbines, and other mechanical equipment.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
Physical Demands
  • Work in all weather conditions, with PPE as necessary.
  • Travel to company locations and participate in emergency and sequence engineering work.
  • Work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
