Job summary

Lenovo Infrastructure Solutions Group in Morrisville, NC is seeking a Senior Hardware Development Engineer to lead a team of engineers in developing innovative server designs for the datacenter market. You will work directly with customers and with architecture and executive leaders to deliver next‑generation ThinkSystem servers.

You will solve complex client challenges, oversee hardware validation, and mentor engineers to advance new technologies in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering.
• 10+ years of in‑depth experience in x86 or AMD architecture and hardware design.
• 10+ years of experience with EDA schematic design tools for PCB schematic creation, support of physical design activity, and performing low‑level hardware validation.
• Experience leading engineers or teams in technical direction and product development.
• Ability to triage and resolve complex hardware issues and guide other engineers on problem investigation.
• Strong organizational skills to lead server subsystem designs with a team of highly motivated engineers that deliver innovative and challenging server designs.

What you’ll do:

The position is for a Senior Hardware Development Engineer in the Lenovo Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG), based in Morrisville, North Carolina. This role is part of the ThinkSystem Server Development organization and focuses on being the #1 trusted IT partner in the datacenter market. You will lead a team of highly motivated engineers to develop innovative and complex server designs, addressing customer and business needs. The position involves solving unique client challenges through custom solutions, engaging directly with customers, and collaborating with architecture and executive leaders to design and deliver the ISG portfolio’s next‑generation servers.

Required skills:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering.
• At least 10 years of in‑depth experience in x86 or AMD architecture and hardware design.
• At least 10 years of experience with EDA schematic design tools for PCB schematic creation, support of physical design activity, and performing low‑level hardware validation.
• Experience leading engineers or teams in technical direction and product development.
• Ability to triage and resolve complex hardware issues and guide other engineers on problem investigation.
• Strong organizational skills to lead server subsystem designs with a team of highly motivated engineers that deliver innovative and challenging server designs.

Preferred skills:

• Master’s Degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering.
• Server design experience is strongly preferred.
• Previous experience in FPGA code development and validation, DC power circuit design, and/or PCIe bus design, simulation, and validation. Proficiency in Linux/Windows operating systems.
• Experience with OS virtualization is a plus.
• Strong proficiency in shell scripting (BASH/Perl/Python and Windows PowerShell) preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership on a project with engineering team members located in multiple geographies.
• Ability to provide mentorship to other engineers and support the growth and development of engineering talent in new technologies.
• Business acumen to engage with various functional teams required to take projects from concept to production.
