Job summary

Energy Transfer is seeking a Sr. Engineer to provide engineering expertise for safe, reliable operation of natural gas pipelines and compressor stations. The role covers design, project management, CAD oversight, cost control, and regulatory compliance with 49 CFR 192 and ASME B31.8.

The candidate will coordinate with multiple internal teams, prepare bids, and monitor project costs, schedules, and performance. Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering and 6+ years in gas transmission.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, civil, or electrical engineering required (6+ years gas transmission experience).
  • Knowledge of 49 CFR 192, ASME B31.8, API, and AGA.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and MS Projects.
  • Experience with vendor sizing programs for valves/regulators.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering design and project management for assigned projects per company specs and Federal regs.
  • Prepare cost estimates, scopes of work, and scheduling.
  • Direct engineering and CAD design personnel from internal and third parties.
  • Prepare material requisitions and specs for construction.
  • Review vendor drawings and manufacturing specs for compliance.
  • Prepare weekly project activity reports and track cost/schedule.
  • Coordinate with operations, risk, and customers to reduce outages.
  • Support right-of-way permitting and crossing approvals.

Job description

As a Sr. Engineer, you will be trained in Energy Transfer Company’s Safety, Operation, and Maintenance procedures related to plant and pipeline facilities. The incumbent will provide engineering expertise to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of natural gas pipelines and compressor stations. The duties would include:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide engineering design and project management for assigned projects in accordance with Company specifications, industry standards, and Federal regulations.
  • Prepare project cost estimates, scopes of work, and scheduling.
  • Provide direction and monitor Company and third-party engineering and CAD design personnel.
  • Prepare material requisitions and specifications for the purchase of materials for construction projects.
  • Perform technical review of vendor material quotations, engineering drawings, and manufacturing specifications and procedures.
  • Review preliminary drawings for neatness, completeness, and accuracy, and approve the drawings for bid and construction.
  • Prepare weekly reports on project activity, track project cost and schedule, and report results to Management.
  • Review as-built drawings for compliance with Company specifications, Industry standards, and Federal regulations.
  • Assist Field Operations and team personnel with engineering problems, code interpretation, and questions.
  • Develop Construction Bid packages and write contracts for the winning bidder.
  • Provides financial oversight and revises projects to reflect changes in cost forecast exceeding approved tolerances.
  • Coordinates with Specialists, Operations (Team, Managers, and Directors), Gas Control, Integrity, Planning, Marketing, and customers to reduce or eliminate outages.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of applicable Federal Regulations, Company Engineering Standards, and Standards Operating Procedures and other pipeline industry standards and specifications.
  • Provide technical support for right-of-way permitting and acquisition, including the preparation and approval of road and railroad crossing permit drawings and the preparation and approval of property plats used to acquire the necessary right of way and temporary construction workspace for assigned projects.
  • Analyzes outside design drawings for encroachments to Company Facilities. Works to eliminate conflicts and provides initial scope for the required relocation of Company facilities.
Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

  • Qualified candidates should possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering and 6 years of experience in gas transmission or a related field.
  • Expected to have knowledge of 49 CFR 192, ASME B31.8, API, and AGA. Industry experience in engineering, design, and operation of natural gas transmission systems.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and MS Projects.
  • Knowledge in vendor sizing and selection programs for control valves, regulators, and relief valves, pipeline flow calculations, road crossing stress calculations, area of reinforcement calculations, and other engineering-related programs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision. Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in an environment of changing priorities, reporting, and regulatory requirements.
  • Must be able to manage time, conflicting and changing priorities, work in a team environment, and assist team members as required.
  • Deals frequently with a wide range of contacts, including technical, operations, risk management, contractors, vendors, attorneys, and various levels of management.
Working Conditions

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Usually, normal office working conditions.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Must be able to travel 20% of the time with an occasional overnight stay.
  • Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Must reside within 45 minutes of the reporting work location.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
