This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

Why Join Us? At Roche, your expertise in public safety and emergency management directly safeguards the people and the science that are curing cancer. We offer competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and a culture that values autonomy, leadership, and impactful work.

While physical security is a component of this role, the primary focus is on life-safety systems, emergency management, disaster preparedness, and crisis response. You will act as the driving force behind our site-level incident readiness, ensuring the safety of our personnel, facilities, and sensitive diagnostic materials while managing individual contributors and external managed service providers. You will serve as the Deputy Site Security Officer (to the Senior Security Manager). Interacting frequently with senior executive leadership, this position requires exceptional emotional intelligence, political acumen, and a solutions-based mindset to translate complex safety protocols into actionable business resilience strategies. You must be a self-starter who thrives with limited supervision, capable of effectively diagnosing short- to mid-term security needs and shaping large-scale initiatives in a fast-paced environment.

The Opportunity
  • Emergency Management & Preparedness: Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive emergency management, disaster preparedness plans, and safety procedures tailored to a global life sciences environment. Lead unified crisis response efforts utilizing the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) frameworks
  • Risk Mitigation & Operations: Conduct risk assessments, tabletop exercises, and emergency drills to ensure cross-departmental readiness. Assess off-campus locations and events for overall security. Identify gaps in security measures, safety systems, training, and policy, and recommend improvements. Life-Safety & Fire Protection Systems Oversight: Direct day-to-day operations, routine testing, preventative maintenance, and compliance inspections for all site life-safety systems, fire protection infrastructure, and emergency suppression equipment in strict accordance with local codes and NFPA standards.
  • Team Leadership: Manage the activities and provide leadership to the safety and security team to ensure their actions comply with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Investigations & Partnerships: Manage the most sensitive and complex safety and security investigations involving company products, people, and visitors. Develop cross-functional and external third-party/First Responder relationships to facilitate optimal business partnerships
  • Executive Advising: Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership during both steady-state operations and crisis events, navigating complex organizational dynamics to ensure safety directives are supported from the top down
  • Health, Safety & HazMat Operations: Leverage emergency medical/first responder experience to oversee on-site emergency medical and safety capabilities. Apply hazardous materials (HazMat) awareness and handling expertise to ensure the safe containment and mitigation of biological or chemical incidents on campus
  • Analytics & Technology: Leverage technology, data, and digital tools to generate insights, collaborate, and formulate recommendations for security decisions and improvements
Who You Are
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Homeland Security, Business, Fire Sciences, or a related field (or equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered), coupled with at least 7 years of progressive responsibility in public safety.
  • Leadership Experience: Minimum of 5 years of people leadership experience that includes direct responsibility for first responders
  • Technical Expertise: Proven background as an emergency management professional in private or public sectors, such as first responder (EMT, Paramedic, Firefighter, Police Officer etc.) with demonstrated certifications and experience in HazMat handling, awareness, and incident response. Highly conversant in NIMS/ICS protocols and the core functions of emergency management. Previous experience managing internal and external investigations
  • Communication & Strategy: Exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation skills, with a proven ability to distill complex emergency scenarios into clear, actionable executive briefings. Demonstrated ability to comprehend and translate complex topics into manageable pieces, often in short windows of time. Understands project management lifecycle from concept through deliverable.
  • Culture & Soft Skills: Demonstrated passion for building a diverse and inclusive work culture, fostering open dialogue, and building trust with individuals at all levels through courageous authenticity. High emotional intelligence (EQ) and political savvy to collaborate effectively with executives and global teams
