Job summary

Advanced Energy is seeking a Sr Electronic Engineer to lead applied research, design, development and documentation on multiple projects. You will analyze concepts, create simulations and drive verification with senior professionals inside AE.

Responsibilities include power conversion design, packaging, PCB layout, and collaboration with mechanical/thermal teams to optimize performance and cost. A strong background in SMPS and cooling is essential.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of switch mode power supply topologies and failure analysis.
  • Design experience in liquid cooling or conduction-cooled designs.
  • Strong communication skills for cross‑functional work.
  • Able to work in a multi‑cultural, multidisciplinary environment and own tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Technology solutions and design per power conversion platform requirements.
  • Collaborate on technologies and solutions to improve efficiency and density.
  • Contribute to mechanical packaging, schematic generation and PCB layout.
  • Define cost/performance trade‑offs and optimize performance.
  • Create magnetic and semicon sizing calculations and validate with data.
  • Breadboard, power‑up, test and verify design parameters; document new tech blocks.
  • Coordinate with Design Teams for successful technology transfer.
  • Improve design processes and pursue continuous learning.
  • Develop tools and worksheets for design calculations and simulations.
  • Assess new tech to identify weaknesses and test margins; report results.
  • Research literature to support technology development.
  • Participate in project discussions and design reviews.
  • Work cross‑functionally with Mechanical, Thermal, PCAD, Safety and Electrical teams.

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a strategic and technically adept Sr Electronic Engineer that will perform engineering work in applied research, design, development, and documentation on multiple key projects. Uses research techniques to analyze and validate design or theory concepts. Interacts with senior level professionals both internal and external to AE.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Technology Solutions and design according to power conversion platform requirements
  • Work closely with Advanced Engineering on technologies and solutions that drive performance such as conversion efficiency, power density, power level scaling
  • Actively involved in design conceptualization, mechanical packaging, drive schematic generation and PCB layout, and manage critical parts list of product technology platform
  • Establish solutions to optimize performance and cost trade‑offs
  • Create simulation models, prepare design calculations for sizing up of magnetics and semicons, and correlate with actual performance
  • Conduct circuit breadboarding/fine‑tuning, power‑up, testing and verification of design parameters. Prepare thorough documentation on new technology blocks and theory of operation
  • Collaborate with Design Teams and ensure successful technology transfer
  • Design Process Improvement and Continuous Learning
  • Initiate design and development calculation tools, simulation worksheets
  • Develop strategies for effectively evaluating new technologies to surface potential weakness, include test for margins, prepare detailed design test result
  • Research on published solutions, related literature and relevant technology to aid in technology development work
  • Participate in project discussions and design reviews
  • Cross‑functional work with Mechanical Engineer Tech Core, Thermal Engineer, PCAD, Safety, Design Team Electrical Engineer
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environment: Standard office environment.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledgeable in Switch Mode Power Supply topologies and failure analysis
  • Design experience in liquid‑cooling, or low‑profile conduction‑cooled designs
  • Very good communication skills
  • Team player in a multi‑cultural, multi‑disciplinary environment with a strong sense of ownership
EXPERIENCE

5+ years relevant work experience in the following:

  • Switch Mode Power Supply Design
  • Using Simulation and Calculation Tools in product development such as Simplis/Simetrix, Mathcad, and knowledge of PLECS and PSIM a plus
EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics and Communications Engineering

COMPENSATION

As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $110,000 - $150,000 per year.
