Job Description Summary

As a Senior Electromagnetic Design Engineer in the Electro‑Mechanical Instruments Group, you will play a critical role in developing electro‑mechanical inertial instruments for cutting‑edge guidance applications. You will lead the design of next‑generation miniaturized motors, resolvers, gyroscopes, and accelerometers, characterizing performance, supporting production rollout, and delivering production‑hardened systems that meet the world’s most stringent requirements. You will mentor junior engineering staff and serve as a technical leader in a fast‑paced, technically challenging environment.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop precision instruments, driving solutions to complex problems with limited direction.
  • Mentor less‑experienced hardware instrument engineers.
  • Design experiments and precision instruments to validate design concepts.
  • Collaborate with engineers to prototype and produce hardware that meets application needs.
  • Integrate precision instruments into larger systems, delivering on performance metrics.
  • Develop initial processes for the fabrication of custom instruments.
  • Draft and present technical documents, reports, and testing results to management.
  • Provide training related to devices to employees, sub‑contractors, and customers.
  • Conduct independent research to solve problems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Academic or industry specialization in electromagnetics is required.
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering Physics or a similar field preferred; strong candidates with bachelor’s degrees and proven industry experience will be considered.
  • 5‑10 years of technical experience in a relevant industry or research environment preferred.
  • Highly self‑motivated and able to thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Interest in mentoring students and junior engineers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Track record of inventiveness and technical leadership.
Skills & Abilities
  • Understanding of the design, development, and application of a wide variety of instruments.
  • Understanding of the processes used in the fabrication of precision instrument hardware.
  • Thorough understanding of applied mathematics and physics.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficient with general modeling and simulation tools such as MATLAB, CAD software, FEA software, and other relevant tools.
Education

Requires a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Applied Physics, Electrical, or Computer Engineering; master’s or PhD preferred.

Experience

Requires 5‑10 years of experience in hardware instrument engineering or a related field.

The US base salary range for this full‑time position is $82,300.00 – $220,000.00.
