Job summary

Textron Systems is seeking a Sr Electro-Mechanical Technician in Maryland to build and troubleshoot complex electro‑mechanical assemblies and harnesses. Expertise in IPC workmanship standards, hands‑on fabrication, and interpretation of complex data packages is required.

Responsibilities include independent builds, harness fabrication, crimping, soldering per IPC standards, and electrical testing. The role supports engineering and production with a focus on quality and manufacturability.

Qualifications

• Reading complex electro‑mechanical drawings, cable drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics and docs.
• Experience with IPC/WHMA‑A‑620, IPC‑A‑610 and IPC J‑STD‑001 workmanship standards; certification possible.
• Familiarity with military and commercial quality specifications.
• Proficiency with crimp tools, DMMs, continuity testers, cable testers, and assembly tools.
• Ability to work independently with high quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, shield, splice, terminate, and install connectors into harnesses.
• Carry out crimping operations with appropriate tooling.
• Solder per IPC J‑STD‑001 and obtain Space Addendum as needed.
• Build harnesses per IPC/WHMA‑A‑620 and obtain certifications as required.
• Assemble electronic units per IPC‑A‑610 with space addendum as needed.
• Conduct electrical testing including continuity and hipot testing.

Job Summary

About This Role

In this role, the Senior Electro-Mechanical Technician works independently within engineering, prototype, and production environments to build and troubleshoot complex electro-mechanical assemblies and cable/wire harnesses. This role requires mastery of IPC workmanship standards, hands‑on fabrication capability, and the ability to interpret complex technical data packages.

Responsibilities

• Perform independent builds of complex electro‑mechanical assemblies, cable harnesses, and sub‑systems using engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, sketches, and work instructions.

• Fabricate, shield, splice, terminate, and install connectors into complex cable harnesses.

• Perform crimping operations using various crimp tools, tool selectors, and military/commercial‑grade termination tooling.

• Perform soldering operations in accordance with IPC J‑STD‑001 , including SMT device soldering; ability to obtain Space Addendum as required.

• Build wire harnesses compliant with IPC/WHMA‑A‑620 , including obtaining Space Addendum certification as needed.

• Build electronic assemblies compliant with IPC-A-610 , including obtaining space addendum certification as needed.

• Conduct electrical testing including continuity, insulation resistance, and hipot testing using DMMs and other electrical test equipment.

• Adhere to ESD, FOD, calibration, shelf‑life, and safety procedures at all times.

• Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality to resolve complex problems for efficiency gains and improved quality.

• Mentor junior technicians and contribute to new product introductions.

• Operate semi‑complex electro‑mechanical assembly equipment and verify build quality through self‑inspection

• Recommend changes to designs, procedures, processes and drawings to improve manufacturability and/or quality of the product.

• Assist in the transition of new products to manufacturing.

Qualifications

• Advanced ability to read and interpret complex electro‑mechanical drawings, cable drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and process documentation.

• Strong applied knowledge of IPC/WHMA‑A‑620 ,with IPC-A-610 and IPC J‑STD‑001 workmanship standards; ability to obtain or maintain certification(s).

• Familiarity with military and commercial quality specifications.

• Proficiency using crimp tools, DMMs, continuity testers, cable testers, and mechanical assembly tools.

• Demonstrated ability to apply logical problem‑solving skills to build issues and workflow improvements.

• Ability to work independently with minimal direction while maintaining high quality standards.

• Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineers, quality, and other cross‑functional partners.

• Ability to lift up to 80 lbs occasionally and meet manual dexterity requirements for small‑part work.

• U.S. Citizenship required. Ability to obtain a security clearance

Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical coursework preferred.

• Minimum 7 years relevant electro‑mechanical or cable/harness assembly experience in aerospace, defense, avionics, or similar industries.

• Experience building and troubleshooting complex electrical assemblies.
