Job summary

Textron Systems in Hunt Valley, MD is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer III to lead as a manufacturing engineering authority for complex DoD weapon system production, including electro-mechanical assemblies and precision machined parts.

You will drive producibility, tooling concepts, and cost models using DFM/DFA, while approving process docs and lead corrective actions for quality issues; mentoring junior staff and engaging with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • 5–9 years of aerospace/defense manufacturing ops experience.
  • Expert in developing manufacturing processes and production docs for complex assemblies.
  • Experience with CAD tools and tolerance analyses.
  • Knowledge of AS9100 and MIL-STD requirements.
  • ERP/MRP/MES experience (Solumina, Oracle).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary manufacturing engineering authority for complex DoD weapon system production.
  • Lead development and qualification of advanced manufacturing processes and tooling concepts.
  • Collaborate with design to improve producibility and cost models using DFM/DFA.
  • Oversee manufacturing process docs, routing, and build packages.
  • Drive root-cause investigations and corrective actions for high-impact issues.
  • Develop manufacturing readiness assessments and capital equipment plans.
  • Lead cross-functional teams across production, quality, supply chain, and engineering.
  • Mentor junior staff with coaching and leadership.
  • Evaluate emerging manufacturing tech like additive manufacturing and digital inspection.
  • Represent Manufacturing Engineering at IPTs, MRB, and customer meetings.

About This Role

A Day in the Life of a Manufacturing Engineer III:

  • Serve as the primary manufacturing engineering authority for complex DoD weapon system production, including electro-mechanical, cabling/harnesses, and precision-machined assemblies.
  • Lead development, qualification, and continuous improvement of advanced manufacturing processes, tooling concepts, and production technologies.
  • Drive early engagement with design engineering to influence architecture, producibility, and manufacturing cost models using DFM/DFA and value-engineering principles.
  • Oversee and approve manufacturing process documentation, tool designs, routing structures, and configuration-controlled build packages.
  • Lead root-cause investigations and corrective action implementation for high-impact production issues, MRB activities, and quality escapes.
  • Develop manufacturing readiness assessments, major program estimates, and investment strategies for capital equipment and automation.
  • Act as technical lead across production, quality, supply chain, and engineering to resolve cross-functional challenges affecting cost, schedule, and technical performance.
  • Mentor and guide junior staff, providing coaching, training, and technical leadership.
  • Evaluate emerging manufacturing technologies including additive manufacturing, automated assembly, digital manufacturing, and advanced inspection systems.
  • Represent Manufacturing Engineering at IPTs, MRB, configuration boards, proposal teams, and customer technical meetings.
Qualifications

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 5-9 years of experience supporting manufacturing operations within aerospace, defense, or other complex regulated industries.
  • Expert-level proficiency in developing manufacturing processes, tooling designs, and production documentation for complex assemblies.
  • Strong background with CAD tools such as NX, CREO, or SolidWorks, including model interrogation, tolerance analysis, and drawing review.
  • Demonstrated leadership in technical problem solving, root-cause analysis, Lean/Six Sigma methodologies, and process optimization.
  • Knowledge of AS9100, MIL-STD requirements, and configuration/change control processes.
  • Experience working within ERP/MRP/MES environments such as Solumina and Oracle.
  • Ability to lead and influence teams, communicate effectively with senior leadership, and represent manufacturing in customer or government interactions.
  • Fluent knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Textron's compensation package includes competitive base pay and provides eligible employees with benefit programs.
