Farnsworth Group is seeking a Sr. Project Electrical Engineer - Energy & Utilities in one of the below posting locations. In this role you will assume multi-project responsibilities for full Electrical design, including Power Distribution, Controls, Renewable Energy Systems, Medium Voltage Systems, Substations, Lighting and Communications for Oil & Gas, Industrial, Advanced Manufacturing and Renewable Energy markets.


Posting Locations for this role: St. Louis, MO; Greenwood Village, CO (Denver Tech Center); Indianapolis, IN; Charlotte, NC; Peoria or Champaign, IL


Job Activities:


  • Assume multi-project responsibilities for full Electrical design, including Power distribution, Lighting, Telecommunications, Controls, Renewable Energy Systems, and electrical MV systems design for industrial and oil and gas markets.

  • Actively manages day-to-day planning, staffing, and execution of large, complex projects assigned to the department.

  • Candidate will actively engage in and assume responsibility for:

    • Code familiarity, research and application

    • Fieldwork to ascertain existing conditions

    • Preliminary schematics through final designs

    • Calculations

    • Equipment specification, sizing, and layout

    • Preparation of accurate Electrical system construction drawings and specifications

    • Quality Control for team deliverables

    • Budgeting and financial tracking throughout different phases of project execution

    • Coordination with other production staff

    • Submittal review and construction administration.



  • Candidate will interface with other disciplines, clients, and contractors.

  • Maintain project design budgets and schedules while ensuring quality and meeting schedule.

  • This position has significant client contact and responsibility for developing client relationships and business development.

  • This role includes responsibility for assigning responsibilities, mentoring engineers, designers, and drafters.

  • This role reports to an engineering manager, who will also provide mentoring and training opportunities for professional growth and advancement.


Specific Requirements include:


  • Electrical engineer with 15+ years of experience in technically complex system design.

  • BS in Electrical Engineering. Professional Engineer License (PE) is required.

  • Wide range of design experience, including industrial power distribution, controls and MV systems.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with others and work on multiple, simultaneous projects.

  • Ability to solve complex power engineering problems.

  • Experience in Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.

  • Working knowledge of codes and standards associated with electrical power, including National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, and applicable IEEE Standards.

  • Ability to pass background checks and willingness to comply with immunization requirements that our industrial clients may require to access their facilities.

  • Ability to complete occasional travel to client sites in support of projects.

  • NCEES Record holder preferred.

  • Knowledge of Navisworks software preferred.

  • Knowledge of SKM PowerTools or ETap preferred.

  • Some travel will be required.

Salary Range: $112,000 - $140,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, as well as internal and external equity)
