Position Summary
The Senior Electrical Project Designer leads the design and drafting of complex electrical projects across industrial, oil and gas, and water/wastewater markets. This role collaborates with engineers and design teams to produce high-quality electrical designs, ensure code compliance, mentor junior designers, and support projects from concept through completion.
Job Function
- Lead electrical design for complex projects, including branch circuit layouts, panel schedules, grounding plans, electrical area classification plans, and power distribution systems
- Prepare engineering drawings and perform electrical drafting and design
- Lead and mentor design teams while reviewing drawings, sketches, specifications, and deliverables
- Ensure compliance with NEC requirements, project standards, and applicable regulations
- Collaborate with clients, vendors, suppliers, engineers, and technical leaders
- Conduct site visits and inspections (approximately 10% travel)
- Support project budgets, schedules, and resource planning
- Provide technical expertise and resolve design issues throughout the project lifecycle
- Stay current with industry trends, design practices, and technologies
Education and Experience
- Associate degree or Engineering degree
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant electrical design experience
Qualifications
- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD (required)
- Experience with Revit and/or Plant 3D is preferred
- Experience with ETAP and/or SKM Power Analysis software is a plus
- Knowledge of voltage drop calculations and cable sizing
- Strong understanding of NEC design standards
- Ability to work independently and lead complex design efforts
- Ability to develop engineering system designs based on prior experience
