Job summary

Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design, development, and testing of electrical/electronic systems for aerospace and defense applications. You will drive innovation, provide technical direction, and ensure the successful delivery of high‑performance products.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with mechanical, systems, and test teams, perform validation, and ensure compliance with EWIS, FMEA, and SSA concepts while maintaining documentation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering or a related role.
  • Higher level relevant degree may substitute for experience.
  • Expert proficiency in electrical/electronic design and validation techniques.
  • Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools.
  • Progressive experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting electrical/electronic system federal rules and regulations, including EWIS requirements.
  • Understanding of FMEA and SSA concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute the design and development of electrical/electronic systems.
  • In some applications, lead and execute the development of circuit card assemblies.
  • Lead and provide technical guidance for implementation of electrical wiring design practices.
  • Conduct and oversee comprehensive testing and validation of electronic systems and components.
  • Perform expert-level troubleshooting and debugging of electronic circuits.
  • Develop, document, and review high-level technical designs, test plans, and results.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project success.
  • Lead design reviews and provide strategic technical insights.
  • Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers, promoting technical growth.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement of engineering processes.
  • Contribute to instrumentation effort from design to de-modification through requirements development, design, lab test, integration, and test operations support.
  • Plan, participate, and execute test plan development to ensure objective results are of sound quality.
  • Responsible for developing, modifying, and implementing standard operating procedures for instrumentation hardware and system design.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, systems, and test engineers to ensure seamless integration of instrumentation systems.
  • Maintain, document, and control NIST standards for calibration and verification of measurement equipment.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools.
  • Progressive experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting electrical/electronic system federal rules and regulations, including Electrical Wiring Interconnection System (EWIS) requirements.
  • Understanding of electrical/electronic Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and System Safety Assessment (SSA) concepts.
  • Ability to travel to Dayton, OH to support Instrumentation efforts.
Qualifications – We Prefer
  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Extensive experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software for electrical applications.
  • Experience composing and evaluating an Electrical Load Analysis (ELA).
  • Experience with circuit modeling, simulation, and analysis.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard electrical design principles, to include, but not limited to model-based definition, electrical component selection, manufacturing, and production processes.
  • Familiarity with Electromagnetic Effects (EME) to include Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI).
  • Familiarity with design requirements related to High Intensity Radiated Field (HIRF) and Indirect Effects of Lightning (IEL).
  • Experience in digital or analog circuit design and schematic capture.
  • Understanding of the printed circuit board layout process and tools.
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry.
  • Experience with extensive ground and flight test programs.
  • Familiar with Ethernet, 1553, ARINC 429, and CAN bus protocol.
  • Familiar with Curtiss Wright and/or similar data acquisition systems.
