Job summary

Milwaukee Tool in Brookfield, Wisconsin seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer – Battery Electronics to lead embedded hardware and firmware design, testing and optimization for battery-powered systems.

You will work with cross-functional teams, drive milestones, and travel up to 10% domestically and internationally to support projects. Strong background in low-power embedded electronics and battery management is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in EE/CS or related field.
  • 5+ years in embedded electronics design.
  • Experience with power management in low-power embedded systems.
  • Proficient in firmware creation for evaluations/investigations.

The Sr Electrical Engineer – Battery Electronics will lead the design and implementation of testing of embedded systems and identify engineering trends to drive strategies and Milwaukee Tool’s technical direction. You will work through the product development process in a team environment interacting with cross-functional stakeholders such as hardware, firmware, product development, and reliability engineers. This position will sit at our Headquarters located in Brookfield, Wisconsin.

You’ll be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:

  • Execute a lead role for the design, prototype, test and troubleshoot embedded electronics hardware and firmware for mid to high complexity projects.
  • Research and engage with prospective suppliers on selection of new technology including Lithium-Ion Battery Management ASICs, microcontrollers, Power Devices, and other analog and digital ICs.
  • Provide expertise and engineering support on high complexity projects.
  • Demonstrate Milwaukee Tools Culture of high performance and agility by independently creating Work Breakdown Structure for your work, driving to critical milestones, and giving candid communications up and down the organization on design progress and barrier removal.
  • Use laboratory equipment to debug and develop your design with oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, spectrum analyzers, ESD/EMC, data acquisition systems, and analysis software.
  • Effectively communicate and motivate up, down and across the organization to a diverse range of technical and non-technical team members.
  • Drive urgency in project schedules and accountability for establishing and achieving key project metrics that meet the organization’s needs.
  • Independently track projects to ensure adherence to schedule and the Milwaukee process.
What TOOLS you’ll bring with you:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in the Embedded Electronics design field including 16/32 bit microcontroller-based circuits for measurement and power control.
  • Demonstrated design experience in power management with ultra-low power embedded hardware and firmware implementations.
  • Strong knowledge of industry best practices for design documentation, circuit simulation, schematic capture, layout, and prototype verification testing.
  • Must be proficient in creation of firmware for purposes of technology evaluations/investigations.
  • Proven ability to create a Work Breakdown Structure, drive to completion, and communicate progress and elevate barrier removal needs to management.
  • Self-motivated, organized, efficient, process oriented with a strong work ethic.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, exercises independent judgement and works well under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time (domestic and international).
Other TOOLS we prefer you to have:
  • Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Previous PCBA design experience in Lithium-Ion Battery circuits for high volume products.
  • Fundamental understanding of Lithium-Ion battery management strategies and circuits as well as familiarity with lithium-ion battery management ICs and vendors.
