Job summary

maxon Group is seeking an experienced electronics engineer in Taunton, MA to design motion-control electronics for DC and BLDC motors from concept through production readiness.

You will create rapid prototypes, lead drive-system bring-up, and collaborate with global R&D hubs to ensure architectures and standards are aligned. A strong background in analog/digital circuit design and CAD tools is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent from an accredited university.
  • 5+ years CAD experience (Creo preferred).
  • Practical experience in analog and digital circuit design, preferably in power electronics and drive technology.
  • Experience with electric motors / gears / sensors / controllers in regulated environments a plus.
  • Proven hands-on analog/digital circuit design for motion control or drive systems (BLDC, stepper, DC).
  • Microsoft Office functionality.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electronics for motion control solutions from concept through schematic design and layout to production readiness.
  • Create rapid prototypes of electronics solutions for customer-specific applications and own commissioning, testing, and iterative improvement.
  • Commission and tune drive systems to support hardware bring-up and drive system integration.
  • Perform verification and validation of prototypes and pre-production samples against environmental conditions, standards, and customer requirements.
  • Perform low-level embedded software development in C on microcontrollers to support hardware bring-up and drive system integration.
  • Act as the technical interface to maxon’s global R&D hubs in Switzerland and Europe for alignment on architectures and design standards.

Job description

  • Design and develop electronics for motion control solutions for brushed (DC) and brushless (BLDC/EC) motors, from concept through schematic design, component evaluation, simulation, and layout to production readiness.
  • Create rapid prototypes of electronics solutions for customer-specific applications. Take ownership through commissioning, testing, and iterative improvement.
  • Commission and tune drive systems to support hardware bring-up and drive system integration.
  • Perform verification and validation of prototypes and pre-production samples against environmental conditions, standards, and customer requirements.
  • Perform low-level embedded software development in C on microcontrollers to support hardware bring-up and drive system integration.
  • Act as the technical interface to maxon’s global R&D hubs in Switzerland and Europe, ensuring alignment on architectures, design standards, and knowledge transfer in both directions.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Sub-project management for control-related tasks in customer projects
COMPETENCIES
  • Knowledge of control of drive systems on microcontrollers and experience with PCB design software
  • Analytical mindset with a systematic, methodical approach
  • Strong communicator with ability to interface with customers and distributed international teams
  • Familiarity with embedded systems and motor control ICs or drive electronics
  • Ability to own a design end-to-end, from requirements to working hardware
  • Experience with LabVIEW a plus
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES
  • Bachelor of Science in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent from accredited university
  • ~5-10 years’ experience.
  • 5+ years’ CAD experience (Creo preferred)
  • Practical experience in analog and digital circuit design, preferably in power electronics and drive technology
  • Experience working with electric motors / gears / sensors /controllers (regulated environments a plus)
  • Proven hands-on experience in analog and digital circuit design, ideally for motion control or drive systems applications (small power: BLDC, stepper, DC)
  • Experience with specific requirements and development processes in the industries of our business units: industrial, automotive, medical, and aerospace preferred
  • Microsoft Office functionality

This job operates in a professional, dynamic office environment and regularly utilizes state-of-the-art technology including computers with high-speed internet access, AI, smartphones with various communication apps, cloud-connected multifunction printers, and digital filing systems. These tools facilitate efficient and remote collaboration, reflecting the evolving nature of office environments in the digital age. There is an expectation you will be comfortable working in a lab, assembly, or machine-shop area. The subsystems are designed and built at this location. The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to factory areas, which may require the use of personal protective equipment.
