Job summary

BB&E Inc. seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to support NAVFAC SE in Jacksonville, FL, providing professional electrical design for MILCON, facilities sustainment, renovation, and infrastructure upgrades in DoD environments.

Job description

BB&E is an employee-owned, full-service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering, and Program/Project Management Services to the Federal and private sectors.

Position Summary

BB&E is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team supporting the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Southeast (NAVFAC SE). The selected candidate will provide professional electrical engineering services in support of the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of facilities for the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and other supported commands. Work will be performed on-site in Jacksonville, Florida, utilizing Government-furnished equipment. This position is contingent upon contract award. The role includes support for military construction (MILCON), facilities sustainment, renovation, and infrastructure improvement projects.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct field evaluation and generate review comments for electrical design proficiency in accordance with code standards for in-house and A&E design submittals; ensure comments are resolved and incorporated into the design; ensure A&E contract work has been satisfactorily completed
  • Conduct site visits before design to perform assessments to generate electrical systems design requirements; assist with construction quality assurance (QA) by performing code-required special inspections or required electrical observations
  • Witness acceptance testing and provide troubleshooting recommendations of electrical equipment and systems as part of the facility commissioning process
  • Use AutoCAD and/or REVIT software, Microsoft Office products, electrical engineering design and analysis software, and other applicable DoD computer systems and software used by the Command
  • Produce results of analysis in writing and consolidate findings of others and evaluate recommendations and facts; make oral presentations of proposed designs and results of studies
  • Comply with Safety Policy and Guidance and use personal protective equipment
  • Typical projects include new-build and renovation of administration, industrial, research, recreational, medical, security, waterfront, airfield, and living facilities
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a NACI/CAC is required
  • Certification: Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the discipline of Electrical Engineering is required
  • Knowledge:
    • Knowledge of DoD and Navy guide specifications, criteria and policy, industry codes and standards, and standard practices as related to electrical engineering design, including the NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code), IEEE C2 (National Electrical Safety Code), and the International Building Code
    • Knowledge of local, state, federal, and foreign country laws, codes, and other statutory requirements affecting electrical engineering design throughout the NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic AOR
    • Knowledge of budgeting, planning, and project management techniques, including the ability to coordinate the work of others and lead teams
    • Knowledge of related architectural and engineering fields and their associated impacts as related to electrical engineering design; specific design experience in interior and exterior lighting; facility power distribution systems, including standby power generation; telecommunication systems - including voice, data, cable TV and Wi-Fi; security systems including closed circuit TV; grounding systems; instrumentation/controls related to industrial processes, lightning protection systems; medical facility systems; audio visual systems; and site electrical distribution including medium-voltage distribution switchgear, substations, and transformers; site systems distribution; and overhead and underground distribution
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Software: Proficiency using Autodesk and/or REVIT, MS Office products, electrical engineering design and analysis software, and other applicable DoD systems and software used by the Command
  • Self-Starter: Highly motivated, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines autonomously
Experience & Education
  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of professional electrical engineering code-compliant facilities design experience for new construction, including renovation design experience, is required
  • Education: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineers and Technology (ABET) accredited college or university is required
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand/walk/climb/kneel/crouch and remain in a stationary position/sit at least 60% of the time.
  • Ability to operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Capable of lifting up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to see details of objects that are less than a few feet away.
  • Ability to understand the speech of another person, speak clearly so listeners can understand, and talk or hear both in person and by telephone.
