Job summary

Kosmos Corp, a growing power design firm in Atlanta, GA, seeks an Electrical/Power Engineer to lead substation protection and control design, providing technical direction to a transmission substation team and overseeing project scope, cost estimates, and schedules.

You will develop protection schemes for substation and transmission equipment, assist in SCADA design, write specifications, mentor junior staff, visit sites, and support proposals and business development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited Engineering Program or evaluation of non-ABET credentials by NCEES, or Master's/Doctoral degree in engineering from an ABET-institution.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required.
  • 5+ years' experience as a practicing engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Lead protection and control design for substation and transmission equipment.
  • Develop and implement P&C schemes (bus, line, capacitor, transformer protection).
  • Create P&C drawings (one- & three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams).
  • Oversee project budgets, schedules, and team performance; mentor junior staff.
  • Support SCADA design and integration; participate in site visits to resolve field issues.

Job description

Growing Power Design firm in Atlanta, Georgia has a need for an Electrical/Power Engineer.
Position Overview:

Provide substation protection and control design, engineering, technical support, and oversight to a transmission substation engineering and design team for the purpose of delivering safe, cost-effective, and quality engineering and design services. Provide technical competency and direction on complex engineering and technical problems for projects including a wide range of utility substation projects, battery energy storage systems and solar collector substations. The incumbent is expected to lead discipline work for projects, perform responsible charge engineering duties, and manage project schedules and budgets. The incumbent will also support proposal development, project cost estimating, and business development efforts.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Advanced understanding of protection and control fundamentals as they apply to utility substation and transmission line equipment.
  • Expert in design of protection schemes for substation and transmission line equipment, including bus, line, capacitor and transformer protection schemes and associated settings.
  • Create processes to improve all parts of a P&C design, including P&C one- and three-lines, AC/DC schematics, panel drawings, and wiring diagrams.
  • Advanced understanding of SCADA communication design.
  • Ability to lead a team of engineers and designers in a lead engineer capacity.
  • Expert in the principles of project management.
  • Through understanding of substation design to include equipment arrangements.
  • Create quality control checklists for substation P&C design project scopes, estimates, budgets, one lines, three lines, AC/DC schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, settings, relays, and SCADA.
  • Ability to create and report on studies for voltage drop, fault current, and insulation coordination.
  • Perform calculations and studies using client specified software and standards.
  • Ability to write specifications and implement them on engineering drawings.
  • Oversee the work of junior staff and mentor designers/drafters.
  • Experience creating processes for design accuracy, appearance, and adherence to customer standards.
  • Collaborate, communicate, and liaise effectively with other design disciplines, colleagues, construction contractors, consultants, materials suppliers, and clients.
  • Visit sites, advise on physical engineering issues, and modify design to solve issues during construction.
  • Manage budgets and project schedules.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years’ experience as a practicing engineer.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an EAC/ABET accredited Engineering Program OR an approved evaluation of non-ABET credentials by NCEES OR graduation from a Master’s or Doctoral Program in Engineering from an institution with EAC/ABET accredited Undergraduate Engineering Programs.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
