Job Purpose
The Senior Electrical and Controls Engineer is a key leadership role within the OSB Business, responsible for supervising and executing electrical engineering efforts across multiple facilities and programs. This position focuses on process system improvements, leading commissioning for mid-capital projects, and ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards. Expertise in power distribution, automation, and process control systems is essential to support complex manufacturing operations with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with corporate, regional, and plant teams to develop and implement effective solutions aligned with project goals.
- Manage resource planning to support the Corporation’s capital and manufacturing initiatives.
- Design automation and process control systems, including PLCs (Allen-Bradley and Schneider Electric), drives, and controllers.
- Conduct functional safety reviews and ensure compliance with NFPA, OSHA, IEEE, UL, and other standards.
- Lead commissioning for mid-capital projects, overseeing installation, testing, and handover.
- Develop and debug PC and PLC communication networks for data collection and information sharing.
- Maintain project documentation such as standards, schematics, and specifications.
- Identify and implement continuous improvements on production lines to enhance efficiency and reliability.
- Support development of plant electrical personnel and controls engineers through training and mentorship.
- Provide leadership to internal and external engineering teams, ensuring project alignment with standards and timelines.
- Participate in industry training, trade shows, and professional development activities.
- Lead training for operations and maintenance personnel on system design and functionality.
- Implement statistical control techniques (SPC, SQC, SCADA) to enhance process reliability.
- Travel as needed to support projects and initiatives.
Qualifications
Experience:
- At least 6 years of engineering experience, including 2–4 years managing electrical projects and 3 years in manufacturing process improvement.
- Experience managing priorities across multiple locations.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of industrial process systems, including discrete logic, fluid systems, and pneumatics.
- Expertise in Motor Control Centers, drives, and position control systems.
- Proficiency with PC systems, networking, and communication protocols.
- Advanced knowledge of PLC systems, particularly Allen-Bradley and Schneider Electric.
- Experience with Aveva (Wonderware) HMI software.
- Understanding of statistical control techniques and standards such as NFPA, OSHA, IEEE, UL, CSA.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to influence teams.
- Strong ethical and professional responsibility.
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or related field, or equivalent experience (4–6 years of discipline-specific experience).
Work Environment
- Work in both office and manufacturing environments, requiring adaptability.
- Moderate to heavy travel (~50% of the time), possibly more during projects.
- Home-based role preferred if within two hours of a major airport or in the Southern US region.
