Job summary

Mativ Holdings, Inc. seeks a Senior Electrical Controls Engineer to design, implement, and maintain control systems for paper mill operations.

This on-site role at Whiting Mill in Stevens Point, WI focuses on automation, instrumentation, and process optimization across papermachine and converting lines. You will configure PLC/ HMI systems, develop control logic, and support safety, reliability, and environmental targets.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Proficient in PLC/DCS programming (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley ControlLogix).
• Proficient with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley PowerFlex AC/DC drives.
• Proficient with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley FactoryTalk View Studio and PanelView+ hardware.
• Knowledge of industrial networking and cybersecurity.
• Must wear PPE when required and be able to access hot and humid areas; may require climbing stairs or ladders.
• Authorized to work in the United States; sponsorship not available.

Responsibilities

• Keep safety top-of-mind in all tasks.
• Configure and maintain PLCs and HMIs for paper mill processes.
• Develop and update control logic for stock prep, paper machines, and converting lines.
• Install, calibrate, and troubleshoot sensors, actuators, and process instruments.
• Support asset optimization targets (TPD, Yield, Uptime, COM).
• Analyze production data to improve machine efficiency and quality.
• Implement advanced control strategies for consistency, basis weight, moisture, and tension.
• Provide technical support during equipment failures and process upsets.
• Collaborate with Maintenance and Operations to resolve control issues.
• Maintain documentation of control systems and modifications.
• Lead capital projects to improve safety, reliability, and environmental performance.
• Develop and manage 5-year capital plan for Whiting facility.
• Plan annual mill shutdowns and ensure budget alignment.
• Develop technicians and other engineers in Electrical and Instrumentation.

• Provide engineering support toassistin the maximization of asset TPD, Yield, Uptime, and COM targets.

• Analyze production data to improve machine efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.

• Implement advanced control strategies for consistency control,basisweight, moisture, and tension.

• Provide technical support during equipment failures and process upsets.

• Collaborate withMaintenance andOperations teams to resolve control-related issues.

• Maintainaccuratedocumentation of control systems and modifications.

• Development and execute capital projects to support strategic initiatives, reduce costs, and sustain and improve operations from a safety,reliabilityand environmental standpoint.

• Abide by the spirit of all identified industry safety guidelines, mandates, regulations, and laws.

• Managethirdparty engineering asneededtoexpediteproject initiatives.

• Assistin the development and management of the 5-year capital plan for the Whiting facility.

• Plan and execute annualmillshutdownsso activities are impactful and remain in budget.

Qualifications

• Aminimum of3yearsofrelevantexperience.

• Proficiencyin PLC/DCS programming (Rockwell\Allen-BradleyControllogix).

• Proficiencywith Rockwell\Allen-BradleyPowerFlexAC and DC drives.

• Proficiencywith Rockwell\Allen-Bradley FactoryTalk View Studio andPanelviewPlus hardware.

• Knowledge of industrial networking and control system cybersecurity.

• Must be able to wear required PPE when needed, and travel through the facility to perform tasks in areas that are hot and humid.This may require climbing stairs or ladders.

Preferred

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Automation or Engineering field.

• Experience in pulp and paper manufacturing,to includefamiliarity with paper mill processes and quality control systems.

• Knowledge ofAutoCadElectricala plus.

• Oracle knowledgea plus.

• Preferred Certifications: ISA Certified Automation Professional (CAP) or similar.
