Miniat Holdings LLC seeks a Sr. Electrical Controls Engineer to design, maintain, and support electrical equipment and control systems across multiple food manufacturing facilities in Illinois.

Qualifications

  • Experience with AB PLCs (ControlLogix, SLC500) and PLC networks.
  • Field experience with instrumentation and final control elements.
  • Knowledge of 3-phase, 480V power distribution, NEC, NFPA 70E, PPE.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; basic familiarity with AutoCAD.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication; team player.

Responsibilities

  • Programs PLCs, SCADA systems, HMIs, discrete controllers, instrumentation devices, and related equipment.
  • Develops systems in-house or with outside integrators; occasionally manage contractors.
  • Manages projects from concept to completion including requirements, scope, budget, schedules, resources, and team management.
  • Adheres to company policies including food safety, personal safety, and contractor safety policies.
  • Keeps abreast of technologies and industry standards and incorporates into systems.
  • Maintains existing electrical and control system projects from conception to completion.
  • Supports PLCs, SCADA systems, and their communication networks.
  • Develops new systems and upgrades existing systems to enhance production.
  • Creates and maintains technical documentation of systems and operations.
  • Provides electrical & controls engineering support to operations and maintenance.
  • Directs prioritization and representation of system risk and recommendations.
  • Assigns AR items to meet customer expectations.
  • Provides 24-hour problem resolution to systems and staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Oversees project assignments and prioritization within the group.
  • Contributes to performance reviews.
  • Mentors engineering and maintenance staff.

Sr. Electrical Controls Engineer

Salary Range: $120,000.00 To $140,000.00 Annually

Position Description:

Performs functions to design, develop, maintain, and provide technical support for electrical equipment and industrial control systems at the company’s multiple food manufacturing facilities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Programs PLC’s, SCADA systems, HMI’s, discrete controllers, instrumentation devices, and other related equipment
  • Develops systems in-house, or in collaboration with outside integrators; occasionally manage the work of contractors
  • Manages projects from concept to completion (develop system requirements, scopes of work, project budgets, schedules, resource requirements, and manages work teams to ensure project success)
  • Adheres to all company policies and programs, including food safety, personal safety, and contractor safety policies
  • Stays abreast of current and developing technologies, industry standards, and best-practices; incorporate into new and existing systems
  • Performs maintenance on existing electrical and control system projects from conception to completion
  • Supports PLCs, SCADA systems, and their communication networks
  • Develops new systems and upgrade existing systems, as required, to enhance production capabilities at multiple facilities
  • Creates and maintains technical documentation of systems and their operations
  • Provides electrical & controls engineering technical support to operations and maintenance personnel
  • Directs prioritization and representation of system risk and recommendations
  • Assigns AR items to meet customer expectations
  • Provides 24 hour problem resolution to systems and staff as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Oversight for project assignments and prioritization within the group
  • Contributes to the completion of performance reviews
  • Provides insight into the strengths and weaknesses of the department with recommendations that include both locations
  • Mentors and trains engineering, maintenance and other plant personnel in operational roles

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline, preferably electrical
  • 5-7 years of controls engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 5-7 years of experience programming PLC’s, SCADA systems, and HMI’s
  • Experience with AB PLC’s (Controllogix, SLC500), and PLC networks
  • Field experience implementing field instrumentation and final control elements (control valves, motors, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of 3-phase, 480V power distribution systems, NEC, NFPA 70E, & PPE requirements
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite; basic familiarity with AutoCAD
  • Must have excellent organizational skills, strong written & verbal communication skills
  • Must be a team player, and work well with other people at all levels of the organization

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent exposure to a range of temperatures - cold (typical of 40F) in the plant, freezing (32F) in the freezer areas, warm/hot (typical +85F with high humidity) in the plant
  • Frequent exposure to a range of seasonal temperatures while performing work on exterior work/projects
  • Frequent move of materials, parts, and components required for fitting and/or assembly of equipment weighing up to 50lbs.
  • Occasionally travel of up to 5 to 10% to meet fabrication needs and vendor establishments
